Makalele has extended his contract

Claude Makelele has signed a one-year extension to his current contract. It will keep the 34-year-old midfielder at Chelsea until 2009.
Makelele, the senior member of the squad, joined Chelsea in the summer of 2003 from Real Madrid.
He has been a key member of the success since, winning back-to-back Barclays Premiership titles in 2004 and 2005, two Carling Cup winners' medals and playing the whole of last May's extra-time FA Cup win over Manchester United.
His Chelsea career to date has included 183 appearances, two as substitute and two goals.
