Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka will not feature in the Premier League season finale against Bolton as he is ineligible to play against his old club.
The 29-year-old left the Reebok Stadium in January and transfer rules mean he cannot play on Sunday at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea could win the title if Manchester United drop points at Wigan.
Jermain Defoe faced a similar situation when he left Tottenham for Portsmouth as the deal was pushed through as a loan before being made permanent at a later date.
Anelka, who has not scored since February, has struggled for a run of starts recently, with boss Avram Grant using Didier Drogba as a lone striker.
Grant has also used Anelka as a wide forward, limiting the impact of the France international.
Salomon Kalou is fit after an ankle complaint and provides Grant an option if Chelsea are chasing the game against Gary Megson's side.
Defender Ricardo Carvalho, however, will need a late check after landing heavily on his back during the victory over Newcastle on Monday.
Alex would be expected to partner John Terry in the heart of Chelsea's defence if Carvalho does not make it.
With the press simply discarding Chelsea after Mourinho left, and being obsessed with Arsenal's 'beautiful football' 'young guns' and Manchester United & 'best player in the world Ronaldo'...Grant kept a low profile and the press hated him because he wasnt charismatic enough.
But Grant's team - infighting and egos and threats of leaving aside - nibbled away at the gap, got the results and slowly but surely got straight back into the title race and took us all the f***ing way and reached the European Cup final....NOW THAT'S CLASS and Mourinho should learn a thing or two from Avram.
I do not want Sheva to leave. I still think that he can improve, I want him to stay at least until January to prove to everyone what he can do
He didn't really play much in the 2nd half of the season, i still think he can be good in Chelsea too, but Milan want him back i guess, we'll just have to wait and see if theres an offer? I really dont want Drogba to leave...
Good news, Terry will most likely be fit to play in the final
Terry determined to play in Moscow final
Chelsea captain John Terry is said to be determined to play in the Champions League final despite dislocating his elbow yesterday.
The defender picked up the injury during Chelsea's 1-1 Premier League draw with Bolton.
However, he says he only needs three or four days' rest and should be fit for the Moscow decider against Manchester United on May 21st.
