Not necessarily. Its not like Argentina or Barcelona have won anything when Messi became irreplaceable first team material. The lad is too injury prone and that will affect his career as it progresses. he missed the Champions League final in 2006 btw when he was a young fancy footworker for show (played 26 games in all competitions that season). Since then its been nose dive Barca for two years with Messi being integral to their challenge (and getting injured).

Following your example of 'scoring goals against Fulham' (2 out of 42 btw); anyone can score goals past Getafe but it takes someone special to score that goal past Getafe and still end up on the losing side anyway
