A report from the Liverpool City Council suggests that the negotiations for finances for construction at Stanley Park could be much closer to conclusion than originally believed.

Construction could begin as early as April 2010, if finances are indeed secured in January and February as indications show.

This could be the real story of Liverpool's season. Should ground actually be broken at Stanley Park for the new 60,000 set stadium it would prove to be a major turning point in the American owner's time in charge. I normally attempt to stay fairly stoic and avoid too much optimism in these situations but all signs point to this being a legitimate claim. Liverpool desperately need a more modern stadium in order to compete financially with the major rivals in England and abroad. This would also seem to indicate the the financial situation, the refinancing and debts owed by Kop Holdings Inc., are not so dire as earlier reports would imply.

Liverpool Football Club this afternoon announced the signing of Maxi Rodriguez on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid.
