Good News in the FA cup

Newcastle's reward for beating Hull City at SJP in their FA Cup Third Round replay will be a home Fourth Round tie against Millwall or Crewe.

If we win both games we'll be in the last 8, and while we have these games teams like the Mancs got Spurs, Liverpool got Everton, Mackems got Blackburn so lots of prem teams are eleminating each other and if we get an easy team in the quarter we'll be in the semi.

Could this be our way to UEFA Cup next season?

I'll think about it after we beat Hull.

        Second-string Hull hold Magpies

Nothing much is proceeding to plan for Hull City right now. Despite resting five key players, including their goalkeeper, captain and principal striker, Phil Brown's side comfortably forced an unwanted replay against a near full-strength Newcastle United.

Bar some typical heroics from Shay Given, though, Joe Kinnear's side could well have headed home to Tyneside out of the Cup, leaving under-strength Hull having averted what Brown described as the "distraction" of a replay at St James' Park. Small wonder Kinnear ducked the post-match press conference.

Whether the Ireland keeper is still around for the second match remains to be seen. After a statement expressing his "discontent" last week, a parting of the ways could be imminent.

Given's first significant save saw him brilliantly palm Daniel Cousin's low shot on to the base of a post after Craig Fagan had dodged Nicky Butt and Steven Taylor down the left before crossing unimpeded. Later, he would deny Cousin, after the striker had spun Fabrizio Coloccini before shooting, and palm away a viciously swerving Geovanni free-kick.

Hull thought their nemesis had, finally, been beaten when Michael Turner's header from Dean Marney's corner was flicked on to the woodwork by Damien Duff, guarding the far post, and arguably crossed the line before dropping for Given to gather. With the incident described as "inconclusive" by Brown, Chris Foy was surely right not to allow the "goal" to stand, but it emphasised Newcastle's short-circuit in concentration after a bright start.

That false Geordie dawn saw a Michael Owen shot deflected for a corner. Having accelerated on to a long punt, Owen then lifted the ball over the advancing Matt Duke, but narrowly wide of an upright.

After one win in 12 games, Hull are discovering the line between success and failure to be similarly fine. "We're starting to get back to that mentality of not being easy to beat, though," reflected a semi-satisfied Brown. "We're improving."

The same cannot be said for Newcastle.

I dont know what BS website this is from but Owen alone missed 5 chances 2 of them were one on one with the keeper.
We had Andy Caroll playing up with Owen as we have no other fit strikers left, Guttierez came on for N'zogbia who got injured & Taylor had to play right back as we dont have a fit one too.
If they were the better team then why did they get loads of yellow cards?

I'm sure we'll finish them off in St James' Park next week.

Newcastle would lose 'heartbeat' of club if Shay Given leaves

Newcastle United will have to survive without the "heartbeat" of their side if unsettled goalkeeper Shay Given leaves the club.

they pay 30 million for a curly haired Argentinian defender who performs just as much as any other English defender in the EPL and now Newcastle want to give up probably their most important player, Givens?

don't get me wrong, they can make good transfers like Martins but they make some other ridiculous buys and sells.

Given will not leave. He is loyal to the club.
What if all of a sudden there was speculation that Raul and G. Neville were going to leave their respective clubs. It will never happen and people will think it's bullshit.
That's the situation with Given at the moment. Newcastle has been his only club and he is going to retire at Newcastle

well Coloccini is a pretty good defender but for 30 million i'm sure we could have found a great player, but i might be wrong.. but the thing is do you want to fill up your roster with "big name players" like some clubs out there or try to put together players that suits the club
