if we didn't have so much bad luck with injuries constantly i know we would be higher in standings..

i like the players that we added and as this team gets healthier we could be in top 5 (of course that's if ashley will take his head out of his fat a$$ and stop being stingy)

Fabricio Coloccini: Newcastle players will fight for Joe Kinnear
Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini has insisted his team will use Joe Kinnear's health problems as an inspiration.

The Argentine centre-half spoke out as Kinnear, 62, was undergoing triple heart bypass surgery that will keep him off work for at least two months of the Premier League season.

Kinnear was taken to hospital last Saturday after feeling unwell at the team hotel ahead of the 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion and Coloccini claimed his manager's health scare was the catalyst for their first league win this year.

"Beating West brom was also important because we wanted to win for Joe Kinnear," Coloccini said.

"When somebody is out of action like that you need to show that you remember them, and winning is our way of doing that."

"Hopefully we will look back on this day at the end of the season and feel that this was the turning point." Newcastle return to action a week on Sunday when Everton head to St James' Park and Coloccini is convinced his side will look forward to the game with confidence.

"The other good thing is that we have had a break before the next game so we can think about the errors we made as well," Coloccini added.

"We know what wasn't good about the game and now we can train harder.

"We showed fight against West brom. There were lots of goals, but we managed to emerge as the winners.

"Beating West brom was very important for us. They are down there with us and we had to put some daylight between us. I think this can give us something to build on and we can now look forward." Newcastle caretaker manager Hughton is expecting Kinnear, who suffered a heart attack ten years ago while managing Wimbledon, to contact him as quickly as possible following his operation.

"I'd imagine at the first available time he'll be ringing up and, of course, as we go into our next game against Everton," said Hughton who will supervise first-team affairs with coach Colin Calderwood.

"I would imagine that as soon as he can after that he'll be on the phone.

It is very much a personal thing with Joe; the lads are very fond of him.

"But with what we've been through this season they're used to refocusing on what they have to do -" training, playing games and, more importantly, trying to win football matches."

Mark Viduka, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith to return for Newcastle United

Mark Viduka, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith could all be available for Newcastle United against Everton at St James' Park on Sunday.

All three have been absent for much of the season and their comebacks could not be more timely, with Newcastle thirteenth in the Barclays Premier League, four points above the relegation zone.

"It's very important to have them back in the frame," Chris Hughton, the Newcastle assistant manager, said. "They could be very important for us in the coming weeks."

Viduka has been limited to five appearances this season by an Achilles problem but he came off the bench for the final ten minutes of the 3-2 victory at West Bromwich Albion as Newcastle ended a winless run of eight matches. Martins has been out since mid-December with a hernia, while Smith has had foot and ankle problems and has not featured this term.

Hughton believes the presence of three seasoned internationals will benefit the entire squad, even if they are not fully fit. "The group of lads we've got, they'll look around them and see senior, quality and experienced players with them," he said. "Even if they are not quite up to full fitness, the lift they give the rest of the lads is obvious.

"Alan Smith has played in two friendlies and will play in the next one, while Oba will have had some training under his belt by the time of the next match."

Claudio Cacapa is also making progress in training, having been unavailable in 2009 due to a knee injury. "Among the minuses there are plenty of pluses," Hughton said.

Meanwhile, Hughton could call for back-up while leading the team in Joe Kinnear's absence. Kinnear underwent heart surgery last week and must rest for at least eight weeks, leaving Hughton and Colin Calderwood, the former Nottingham Forest manager, in charge of the first team.

However, Hughton has not ruled out bringing in another coach for assistance. "We feel that we're okay at the moment, but we wouldn't hesitate to do it if we felt like we needed another body to perhaps do some individual work."

We can't fear big boys - Lovenkrands'

                        Comment

                          big game.

In 24 hours we'll play Everton (the mackems of mersyside) and a win will fly us 80% to safety as we have some easyer games coming up.

With Martins ready plus the others i think we have a good chance tomorrow (we're at home too).

I'd love to see Martins with Lovenkrands up front with Jonas lft wing, Duff right and butt, Nolan centre. You look at the names and we look like a top 4 team but.............

Anyway, Howay the lads & C'mone Arsenal.
