even if kinnear was in charge we still be where we at... till the day ashley owens magpies we are going to sink like titanic
I'd Have Staked My Life On Newcastle United Staying Up With Me As Manager - Joe Kinnear
The veteran Irishman could be on the cusp of a return to football, and thinks the Toon would still be in the Premier League if he'd been in charge...
Joe Kinnear has revealed that he is still in the frame to become Newcastle United manager, with the offer of a two-year contract still seemingly hanging in the air. He has also affirmed that he is convinced that the Magpies would still be in the Premier League if he hadn't fallen ill.
Severe heart problems in early February meant that Kinnear had to have heart bypass surgery, with initially Chris Hughton and then Alan Shearer stepping into the manager's role on an interim basis.
The club was, of course, relegated, with a final day defeat to Aston Villa, with Hull City staying up despite being beaten by Manchester United at the KC Stadium, but Kinnear thinks things would have been different if he stayed healthy.
"We had a long chat in detail, and Derek [Llambias, Newcastle managing director] came to the agreement that they offered me a two-year deal," he told Sky Sports News.
"[He] wanted to announce it last week, but I put it on hold and that's as far as we've got.
"I was due to go back for the pre-season friendlies but I myself have told them that I need about another month off. I've got one more visit to the hospital. Up to now everything's gone really well and I'm hoping that this time next month I'll have the good news of an all-clear that I can go back into football.
"So hopefully the opportunity's still there, but at the same time the club could be sold or someone else could take the job.
"I left the club who were lying 13th when I had my illness, and I would have staked my life on us staying up. We were in good form at that particular time, we were playing extremely well.
"On the run-in we had 13 games to win two matches - six points - with 39 points at stake we only actually ended up getting five.
"When I was in charge we beat [Aston Villa] 2-0 at home so I felt that Manchester United would win at Hull [City], which they did.
"And I was bitterly disappointed because I thought we could come to Villa here and get at least a draw, and a a draw woudl have kept us up.
"But it wasn't to be so now we need to get back to the Premiership as soon as possible."

Clean-up or wipe-out? we are Fu*ked part 2.
Thursday brought confirmation that Newcastle had accepted bids for Habib Beye and Sebastien Bassong.
BeyeHull CityBassongsix other current United players: Butt, Coloccini, Enrique, Geremi, Gutierrez and Xisco.
To be honest, the only one i'll keep from that list is Enrique, but now that the spanish league is back on top i think he'd rather play there.
in a way, same goes for Guierrez, Coloccini and Xisco.
Geremi & Butt are just shite, i'd let them go for free.
As i said yesterday, what you guys are seeing here are the last days of NUFC.
24 days to go................................................sigpic..........................................00000000 0000000000000000000000000..HOWAY THE LADS
