    Campbell claim

Watching Newcastle's home victory on Saturday evening from the Milburn stand was defender Sol Campbell.

The 34 year-old free agent signed autographs for supporters and said that he was hopeful of securing a playing contract at the Magpies over the coming days.

      4 U sir Bobby.

Shola Ameobi dedicated his hat-trick against Reading to Sir Bobby Robson, while Brendan Rodgers hopes his players benefit from playing at St James' Park.
Magpies striker Ameobiwas given his first-team debut by Robson nine years ago and Saturday's match was the club's first competitive home game since their former manager's recent passing away.
The 3-0 win was secured by Ameobi's first senior hat-trick and the 27-year-old offered his tribute to the hugely respected Robson.
Ameobi told Sky Sports: "Considering the man in Sir Bobby Robson that we were remembering today - he was the man who brought me into the first team - and it's only fitting that I dedicate the hat-trick to him.
"He started off my career and for me, it is a fantastic way to remember him."
Newcastle's caretaker manager Chris Hughton was delighted with the win and was also happy with his team's performance.
Hughton said: "What we wanted first and foremost was to win the game, and if we were able to do that by scoring goals and putting in a performance, that was certainly going to be a bonus.
"We had good periods of the game against a very, very good passing side, and the first two goals were of the highest quality."
Of Ameobi's contribution, he added: "He is a local lad and for any striker to come away with a match-ball is always a very, very proud moment for them.
"The fact that he is doing it here at St James' Park just adds to it for him."
Reading boss Rodgers was disappointed by the result, but insisted his players would learn from their experience on Tyneside.
He said: "It's one we won't cry about. It was a great experience today here for the young players.
"It [Newcastle] is a wonderful club with a big history and stature and it was good for my players to experience that, and we will be better."

Tuesday saw Sky Sports News once again acting as the club's official mouthpiece, confirming that talks over a possible sale of Newcastle United to Barry Moat
            Duff back in the smoke

Fulham confirmed on Tuesday morning that they had completed the transfer of Damien Duff

That's now ten first team players who have exited SJP since the club's relegation: Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Ignacio Gonzalez, Claudio Cacapa, David Edgar, Peter Lovenkrands, Obafemi Martins, Habib Beye, Sebastien Bassong and now Duff.

Owen, Viduka, Cacapa, Edgar and Lovenkrands all became free agents, although some compensation is due to NUFC from Burnley for Edgar due to his age.

Gonzalez limped back to Valencia after his loan deal ended, while it's estimated that we've taken in around (with more in staged payments) and slashed the wage bill considerably.

It's claimed that United have now offered Lovenkrands a new contract, although this is yet to be confirmed by the club. The 29 year-old Dane is currently back at his home outside Glasgow and has been keeping fit with his former club Rangers, whose training ground is nearby.

2008/09 outfield combatants still at the club are Coloccini, Enrique, Nolan, Barton, Guthrie, Ryan Taylor, Smith, LuaLua, Carroll, Gutierrez, Xisco, Geremi, Butt, Ameobi, and Steven Taylor.

PS: some meaningless sound bites from former players:

Habib Beye (who reputedly asked for a transfer request):

            Damien Duff:

"I'm as loyal as they come and, whether the gaffer stays or goes, I'd love to try and get Newcastle back up into the Premier League."

            Obafemi Martins:

"..my aim is to stay and help get Newcastle promoted next season. I love living in Newcastle and there are few better places to live and play.

While Sebastien Bassong was fairly up front about his desire to make an immediate return to the top flight, Steven Taylor did assert in a newspaper interview:

"I keep hearing about players leaving St James' Park should we go down and my name has been bandied about, but I am going nowhere. I am a Geordie and Newcastle United is my team and I am staying put whatever happens."
only time will tell, 13 days to go.

                    4 gone, 42 to go.

                    christal palace 0 NUFC 2. Nolan & R.Taylor.

This game was better than some of the premier leage games that were played today (check the bbc1 tonight).

10 points from 4 games so far, 7 goals scored & one against. with all the shit that is happening i think this is great.

By the way, our game against sheffield wednsday had over 43000 fans in st james park (9000 empty seats) while Sunderland vs Chelsea had 40000 (9000 empty seats) and vs blackburn today 37000. premier league teams my ass.
Oh, after Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool we came 4th in highest home attendence so far in the english league (from prem all the way down to confrance) with 400 only less than liverpool (we'll beat them next week).

This just proves to me that we are, were & always will be the best fans in the country.

                    Howay the lads.

monday the 24th of August. big day.

Tommorow the 24th is a big day in Newcastle United history.

Mike Ashley will announce weather the club has been sold or an agreement has been agreed or if we are stuck with him.

Now this is what i think.Maradona told Gutierrez he'll still get picked if he playes good even in the championship (good news) & same for Colochini.

With Everton agreeing to sell Lescott i bet they'll be after Taylor now, i hope we can keep him, if not i'm sure one of the kids in the reserves will cover for him as so far they all looked good in the past 3 games.

Anyway, Howay the lads, big day tomorrow.
