HUGHTON NAMED MANAGER OF THE MONTH
      Posted on: 12.09.2009

Newcastle United caretaker boss Chris Hughton picked up the first managerial award of the new season today after being named Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month for August.

Hughton's side have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, with four wins and a draw from their opening five league fixtures. They began their campaign with a well earned point away at West Bromwich Albion and followed this up with back-to-back home wins over Reading and Sheffield Wednesday respectively. Further victories followed over Crystal Palace and Leicester City to cap a fine month and leave the Magpies as the early leaders of the Coca-Cola Championship.

Also short-listed for the August award were Alan Irvine of Preston North End, Kevin Blackwell of Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion's Roberto Di Matteo.

Phil Parkinson of Charlton Athletic won the award in League 1 and John Still of Dagenham & Redbridge was given the League 2 accolade.

The decision to present the Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month award was made by the Coca-Cola Awards panel which includes former World Cup referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, Olaf Dixon of the League Managers Association and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.

AMEOBI NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH
      Posted on: 12.09.2009

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi was celebrating today after being named Coca-Cola Championship Player of the Month for August.

Ameobi has been at the heart of Newcastle United's excellent start to the season, hitting four goals in as many league games in August. The frontman opened his account for the campaign with an impressive hat-trick in his side's comprehensive home win over Reading. He also netted the only goal to seal all three points for the Magpies in their game against Sheffield Wednesday as Chris Hughton's side continue to set the early pace in the Coca-Cola Championship.

Also short-listed for the August award were Nicky Maynard of Bristol City, Michael Chopra of Cardiff City and Derby County's Miles Addison.

Lloyd Sam of Charlton Athletic won the award in League 1 and Ismail Yakubu of Barnet was given the League 2 accolade.

The decision to present the Coca-Cola Championship Player of the Month award was made by the Coca-Cola Player of the Month awards panel which includes former World Cup referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, Steve Bates, Chairman of the Football Writers' Association, Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.

                we deserved it.

                Blackpool 2 - NUFC 1.

the worst game the club has played in 2-3 years.

                i think we lost because:
1- we only have 14 fit 1st team players that had to play 8 games in one month.
2- the ref was a mackem.

the players looked tired, we will need more bodys in to help give some players rests and change the team around.

we'll win on saturday no problem.

You were probably good enough to play for them last night in the carling cup.
                        we lost 2-0 against Peterborough.

we had 4 new players (1st team game) and in total 6 players under 19. the rest were players like Ranger 19, S.Taylor 23 and captain, Tim Crul the keeper etc...

It doesnt bother be as our squad is realy thin and we need to consentrate on the league and going back up.

Anyway, on the 1st of october i'm off to Qatar for 3 weeks. i'll see if i can stay updated with you guys from my brothers PC.

                        Howay the lads.

                          Ipswich Town (a)

United make the journey to Suffolk on Saturday afternoon for a 5.30pm kick-off that is beamed out live to the nation on BBC2. The away section is sold out.

After having beaten the Championship's bottom-placed side in our last league outing, we now come up against the second-bottom team, managed of course by our old friend Royston Keane, Suffolk's #1 dog walker.

                          Town boss predicts score draw

Anything but a home win will see Town record their worst ever start to a league season, last week's draw away to Doncaster meaning that the current side emulated their 1964/65 predecessors' start of no wins and just three draws from eight games.

Their manager at that time? a certain Jackie Milburn.

                          NUFC: to follow...

New loan signing Marlon Harewood is added to the squad following completion of his temporary move from Aston Villa on Friday morning.

Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique picked up niggles last weekend and were rested in midweek and should be OK for Saturday. Andy Carroll and Nicky Butt were also excused Carling Cup duty while Zurab Khizanishvili was cup-tied.

Danny Guthrie (suspended) is missing, Tamas Kadar (groin) won't be risked, Danny Simpson (ankle) is a doubt and Joey Barton has now joined the absentees with what's being called a minor foot problem.

Shola Ameobi (ankle) and Jonas Gutierrez (hamstring) are also both out - the former isn't expected back on a pitch until November, but the latter is been penciled in for a return against Bristol City in early October.
