Serie A: Ronaldo set for first AC Milan start

ROME, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Brazil striker Ronaldo is poised to make his first start as AC Milan look to maintain their rapid rise up the Serie A standings when they visit Siena on Saturday.

The three-times FIFA World Player of the Year, who completed a 7.5million-euro move from Real Madrid last month, made his debut last weekend as a substitute for the final half hour of a 2-1 win over Livorno.

He produced a lively performance, capped by three shots on goal, one a dipping drive from outside the area that was tipped around the post.

'It's probable that Ronaldo will play against Siena from the start,' coach Carlo Ancelotti told the club's Web site on Wednesday.

'He's working well, his physical condition has improved, and he is very motivated. He's also the most talented player we've got.'

Ronaldo's arrival has coincided with a revival of Milan's domestic fortunes.

Languishing in the bottom half at the start of December, five wins in their last six games have lifted Milan to sixth, two points behind Empoli, who occupy the fourth and final berth for next season's Champions League.

Siena's 16,000-seater Artemio Franchi stadium is one of the few Italian grounds fully in line with the safety regulations imposed by the new anti-hooligan plan and so should be full for the game.

Ancelotti is expected to field an attacking line-up, with Ronaldo starting alongside Italy international Alberto Gilardino.

Leaders Inter Milan will aim to extend their record-breaking run of Serie A wins to 16 by beating Cagliari at the San Siro on Saturday.

Cagliari have won just once on their travels this season, and the chances of an upset are reduced further by the return of Inter's leading scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swedish international, who has scored 10 Serie A goals this season, has been on the sidelines since clashing heads with Sampdoria defender Giulio Falcone three weeks ago.

Inter's nearest challengers, AS Roma, lie 11 points behind and face a potentially tricky away trip to Empoli, who will be desperate to cling on to fourth.

At the other end of the division, newly-appointed Parma coach Claudio Ranieri begins his bid to avoid relegation with a home match against Sampdoria.

I hope he has improved his fitness and overcome any rustiness to make sure his first start proves a success.

I wish Ronaldo the best. He is a wonderful player wherever he went. Be it PSV or Barca, Inter or Milan, Brazil or Real. He is a great sportsman.

He'll get a few chances to prove himself. Milan's system is very competitive. He has to show something otherwise he'll be a nice benchwarmer considering his huge rear end (don't forget that Milan is after Eto'o or Dinho and I'm positive that one of them will be in Milan in the Summer)
He is lucky that Pipo is injured now and there is practically no other competitors.

But lets wait and see. I personally think that he'll make a good combination with either Gila or Pipo. It just takes a little time for them to get to know eachother.

Milan will be the team to beat next season.

                            Viva,

Gila and Pipo are no competition for El Phenomeno. Ronaldo will be a fixed player soon at the front line and Gila and Pipo need to compete with each other to get playing time...Ronaldo is the man and he has no competition at Milan.
Please read my post again and what the coach said about Ronaldo. He is the most talented player that Milan has....

Milan will "become" a good team, all thanks to Ronaldo...He is reviving Milan..

it's vice versa my dear. If Ronaldo could do jack, he would do it in Real. Milan is giving back life to him.

Stop staying in the dark. be more logical and accept that Ronaldo is not the #1 he was before. I understand that you love him and you close your eyes on the facts because you don't want to see the truth about your favorite player, but at least try.

Ronaldo is good, but not excellent anymore.
and no more comparison between Gila, Pipo and Ronaldo, that will show your lack of knowledge about football! Gila and pipo are finishers, whereas Ronaldo is more like a creator. Roanldo can never do what Gila and Pipo do and vice vera. The combination of Gila/Pipo and Ronaldo will make a deadly attcking line. None would be perfect without eachother. Stop being a hard headed.

Also, don't forget that Pipo is 35 now. So he is practically retiered.

I'm starting to like him, don't make me hate him again because of your biased responses.
