I was watching GolTV news last night and they hinted that the whole fighting started because of a hard foul by Materazzi on one of the Valencia palyers in the middle of the field. If you look at the replay, Materazzi jumps for the ball btu hits two of the Valencia players and fall on the pitch. I dont know if his foul was intentional or not, but with his reputation, I would say it was even though he was not involved in the fighting later on at all.
Watch his foul before you comment.
Last but not least, it was really stupid of navarro (the bench player) to run in the field and smack the Inter player. He should be suspended, for sure..

MILAN - Further to the disconcerting incidents of aggression that took place in Valencia, F.C. Internazionale cannot underestimate or forget the fact that it was the victim of an absolutely serious situation, which arose from the physical aggression towards one of its players, who sustained a broken nose after being provoked. Any reaction that occurred was consequent to this unjustifiable episode; reactions that saw a player hit in cold blood at the end of the match and without any reason, when efforts had already been made to restore the calm after verbal provocations, which also came at the end of the match, and were directed at the same Inter player. What happened should have been prevented beforehand.

In consideration of the atmosphere inside and outside the stadium, both before and after the match, including the banner bearing the inscription 'Vendetta', which goes against all the rules of fair play, the club feels it should defend its image and that of its players, and point out the organisational limits of security which led to further confusion, both after the assault on Nicolas Burdisso and while all Inter officials were busy accompanying their players back to the dressing room.

For this reason, and certain that the exact evaluation of the facts that saw F.C. Internazionale become a victim of provocations and assaults will not have escaped the attention of UEFA, the club announces that it will assert its rights in all relevant courts, and with all the resources at its disposal.

Hey I'm not Anti-Inter I support them, but you have to be blind not to see their dirty players. Before Materazzi tried to break it up he through some dirty elbows in that match. Inter players were acting like thugs, while Valencia players were acting like Drama queens, quite the couple actually.

Yes the incident with Inter and 2 Valencia players was dirty on both sides parts, but you notice Materazzi came out unscratched while the Valencia player had him fall on top of him.

Navarro has a history. He is an animal and with Alfaro were known as the Butchers of Seville at their time there. I think between them they have no1 and no2 for the record amount of red cards.

Inter player gets knocked out along with the the team from CL. Next Burdisso shouldn't act like an animal, you look for a fight you'll get it. Navarro stood up for a team-mate, although in a very cowardly way. I'd like to know what set off Burdisso, thats what started it all.

What a bunch of sore losers Inter are. You don't expect to come to Valencia and get away with playing dirty can you? Can't say I liked the violence but a retaliation was bound to occur.

At the final whistle Carlos Marchena and Nicolas Burdisso became involved in a heated argument which started the melee in the centre of the pitch.

The home team's David Navarro then sprinted into the crowd of players and punched Burdisso which caused mayhem as the assailant was pursued by several Inter stars.

"Carlos Marchena was making fun of Nicolas Burdisso in Spanish," Toldo explained.

"Unfortunately for him, we have 15 Spanish speaking players and he picked the wrong one. Burdisso is an instinctive guy and reacted against everyone.

"I was holding Burdisso and taking him to one side,. The trouble is an idiot called Navarro came up behind us.

"Nobody expected him to throw a punch, but he aimed it directly and Nicolas' nose went in the other direction.

"I felt him suddenly go limp like a sack of potatoes, as he was losing consciousness. At that point, we snapped and all chased after this disgraceful coward who ran away.

"Cordoba managed to get a kick to him, but he was wearing his shin pads. He managed to get into the locker room and that's where the hunt for Navarro continued."

Toldo was caught on television entering the Valencia dresing room in search of Navarro and as he did so scuffles broke out with security staff and other players.

"The police were there, there was more traffic than in the centre of Milan at rush hour," the goalkeeper continued. "I ran in and didn't look anyone in the face, so they did not think to stop me.

"There were ten steps before you could get into the area where the Valencia players were, so the police managed to block me and I didn't move from there. I wasn't even entirely sure who I was looking for at that stage, so I was in the dark."

Local media reported that Navarro was taken away from the stadium soon after the incident to avoid creating any more tension.

UEFA have begun an investigation into the fracas, but Valencia are unlikely to be expelled from the competition for their part in the brawl.

I respect Toldo, but this is a slanted article, they didn't have Valencia's side. Navarro was a coward. Burdisso and Inter were sore losers.
