Another Legend Spat At.. Bye Bye Carlos

Roberto Carlos has announced that he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season. The 33-year-old left back has come in for fierce criticism for his recent performances, and confirmed he would not sign a new contract.

The Brazilian said he had spoken to sporting director Predrag Mijatovic and president Ramon Calderon about his decision.

"It is time for a change, I have told Pedja and the president that I am going. I'm not going to renew my contract," he said.

Roberto Carlos was savaged after he was caught in possession seconds after the kick-off of Real's game against Bayern on Wednesday, leading to Roy Makaay scoring the fastest goal in Champions League history.

Real were knocked out on away goals, leading to calls for wholesale changes in the team, who are languishing just fourth in La Liga.

"After [Wednesday's] game, I felt very bad, I talked about it a lot and it is time to end my sporting life at Real Madrid.

"It is a delicate moment in my life. I am very sad. After the game, my family in Brazil were also very sad."

The defender said he had not reached an agreement with any other side, but it is expected he will return to play in Brazil.

It has already been suggested that Fabio Capello will axe him from the first-team altogether, and that the free-kick specialist may not play for the club again.

Good for both parties, he simply isn't that good anymore. His free kicks are actually quite awful these days. I think he needs a new challenge and maybe that'll motivate him enough to play better. I heard Matersacker was going to Real this summer. Maybe they'll play with a 3 back system, since their wing backs aren't much these days.

man this is real sad!! He should have ended it like Zidane (on top) that way people will remember you more and will retire on top.

The greatest left back ever in my opinion!

Real Madrid is one of my most hated clubs. They just go on a shopping spree and by so many of the worlds biggest players, and it just doesn't work - having so many big players, all wanting to shine...

He was a wonderful player...an amazing LB.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.
