I think Australia have the best chance at winning.

First upset of the world cup, the home team easily accounted for Pakistan, and it was the Pakistani batsmen and not their bowlers who failed.
Pakistan won the toss and decided to field
West Indies Innings
241 for 9 (50.0 overs)
Pakistan Innings
187 all out (47.2 overs)
West Indies beat Pakistan by 54 runs

The Windies have been in great form for a while and Pakistan has been in dissaray for a while. I tipped the windies to win this one.
An upset is Scotland beating Australia.

Well I was expecting Pak-WI to be a close affair, the surprise for me is that the Windies managed to win it so comfortably, at one stage it seemed like Pakistan was going to lose by over 100 runs. It's a good thing I don't bet on cricket.

This very inconsistency, team politics, and overhype has made me stop giving a damn about my team and the game of cricket as a whole.
boo cricket - hurray football
I don't know enough about Pakistani football, but my guess is that you have even more problems there too, with administration and corruption and the lack of funding. It would be great for Asia if Pakistan showed as much interest in football as it does in cricket, but it might happen if some of the UK born Pakistanis decide to play for the Pakistan national team and also invest in the league financially.
Still I wouldn't give up on cricket, you're one of the top 5 teams in the world, and you seem to be doing a bit better than India these days so that's gotta count for something .

That said, we have managed to get the likes of QPR's Zesh Rehman to play back in Dec 2005, although the ineptness of the PFF has made him turn away from the team although he still says if PFF formally call him up again, he will play for Pakistan hands down. That and a few more lower league and non-league (as in Conference North) players are in our sights, quite young and will be able to help the team, provided that the damn PFF acknowledge their desire, help them get Pak passports and call them whenever a match is on. We have tried in getting their message across, but PFF is still too bureaucratic at the moment, but we are still working hard for a change.
Himmat-e-mardaan, madad-e-khoda
As far as cricket goes, I say India is doing much better than Pakistan. They have a full pace force and their own batting to choose from. I say they will perform better than us. Top 5 in 10 countries ? That sucks...given the over-emphasis of cricket in our lives, Pakistan should have been the TOP side in the world with more than just ONE world cup win back in 1992 (happy times ), all we see now is inconsistent and typically rash south asian style cricket, and that has made me turn away.
p.s. how did an Iranian like yourself get interested in cricket ?sigpic

Off topic, the former captain of England cricket team was a Parsi, Ronald Charles Irani.

With our three best batters doing well and our bowlers finding length and getting wickets we are sure to be up there again.
