    Australia beat China

Australia produced a powerful first-half display to record a 2-0 friendly win over China.

Both teams are preparing for the Asian Cup in the summer, but Australia will be the happier of the two sides after goals from Brett Holman and Mark Bresciano settled the game.

Holman scored after just eight minutes when he was presented with a simple opportunity following good work by Bresciano.

The provider turned scorer on 27 minutes when he finished coolly after capitalising on a mistake from Du Wei.

China improved after half-time, with Zheng Zhiyi, on loan at Charlton Athletic, testing Mark Schwarzer with a free-kick.

Manchester United striker Dong Fangzhuo also caused difficulties, but Australia held on to please coach Graham Arnold.

"I'm very happy," Arnold told Australian TV. "The first half was an excellent attacking performance. With a bit of luck we could have been up by four or five.

"The second half was a bit disappointing, but when you take into account the heat and the travel and everything else it was a pretty good performance."

The result is expected to put further pressure on China coach Zhu Guanghu, following recent demands for him to step down before the Asian Cup starts in July.
