Totti in sight of Golden Shoe lead

Francesco Totti needs two goals in AS Roma's final game of the season next week to snatch the lead in the ESM Golden Shoe rankings from SC Heerenveen forward Afonso Alves.

    Two goals behind
With the regular Eredivisie season over, Alves has been unable to add to his tally, and what was a seven-point lead a week ago is now down to three after Totti struck twice in his side's 3-2 defeat against Cagliari Calcio yesterday, the second his 200th goal for Roma. Another pair next Sunday in the campaign-closing home fixture against FC Messina Peloro would take Totti above Alves in his bid to keep the Golden Shoe in Italy after Luca Toni's triumph in 2005/06.

    * Season over
A player cannot first play in a summer league (eg Norway) and then in a winter league (eg Spain) and combine the points total for each season.

Roma's last game is against Messina who are in the bottom of the table. Messina has nothing to defend and they have a pretty week defensive line.

I think Totti can do it and will do it. Roma is playing for Totti now. They are giving everything to Totti.

what is this? so if totti scores 2 goals he will have 26 goals... but alves has 34.. so how will he win? why are their goals multiplied by 2 and 1.5? does it have something to do with the difficulty of their league? they should consider penalties too... half of tottis goals are from penalties but alves only got 2 from penalties.

The Dutch league is considered weaker by UEFA standards and there is a points system that is allotted to different leagues according to their UEFA coefficients.

For example, the Spanish, Italian and English leagues get 2 points for a goal, the weaker leagues like Germany and Holland get 1.5 points for each goal. Likewise for weaker leagues.

So essentially despite Totti's lesser goals, on points he is close. I wouldnt be surprised if Totti actually wins the Golden Boot as he has been THE catalyst for Roma's much strong domestic showing. That said, given Real Madrid have a few more games left in the season, Ruud Van Nistlerooy also seems a favourite as well for the boot as he isnt far behind.

How to calculate 1/2 in Milad's math:

          5/24 = 1/2

Perfect math!! Are you an Art student or what?!

That's why I consider you as an unfair and biased fan of football. No one should ever take your posts seriously.

you know for a fact that i am unbaised, fair, and always have reasonable posts. when i said half it was obviously an exaggeration, because every time i check italian league scores i see totti scored on a penalty. my actual guess was 25%, which is close.
if you dont believe me take a look at this post:

i believe thats the most unbaised post in that thread.
so before you call me unbaised for a simple joke take a look at your own posts, only praising italian players as if the rest of the football world doesnt exist. for example, how come you didnt vote in the best striking duo poll? because there were no italians on the list of course!

yea i thought so, thanks for the confirmation/explanation. however, i believe that the spanish and english leagues deserve more points than weaker leagues such as italy, germany, holland. i think england and spain should have same point multiplier, italy and germany have same, and france, holland, and portugal have the same.

What is it that everytime we point out your misinformation and "exaggerations" you say "I was joking!"? Why can't you become a man and stay behind what you said? I don't see any signs of jokes or even an exclamation mark in your post.

                  I don't like smartasses!

I didn't vote cuz I didn't like to. Why should I explain it to a 16 year old boy? but since you want to learn more about football, I'll tell you.

I didn't vote because I find none of them deadly at this moment! Crespo and Saviola are okay.

again, you are one of the most biased and unfair members here. I respect that though. you have a passion to dislike and degrade Italian players and Italian teams despite the fact that they might be among the bests. It's fine. I don't give a dime. no other Italian fans give a dime either!

because it was an exaggeration. simple as that. and why are you trying to cover up the fact that you didnt vote just because there are no italians there. the poll is going by those players at their best... so its ridiculous that you find none of them deadly.. even if its by current form. youre the only one that thinks im baised, but everyone knows you are. have a nice day.

i dont think anyone "hated" you. its just that "dislike" is developed throughout a tournament. it is earned.

i read an interesting article 2day in regrads with totti (bfore u ask it was a magazine and some1 gave it to me)... and it gave a fair description of his play, antics etc.. and came to a rather blunt conclusion that... totti's skills are only limited to serie A.. which i must say is quite agreeable.

Spain league should have less points! Why? Because their defense sux!
Scoring in La Liga is so much easier than doing in it Serie A or Germany.

Seems like you dont have any info on this issue so let me enligthen you:
                              Player Goal Penalty
                              F. Totti 24 5

                              R. Van Nistelrooy 22 4
                              --------------------
Tototi has scored 24 goals, 5 from penalties

Nistelroy your Team's Striekr has scored 22 goals, 4 from penalties, a simple math shows Nistelroy has benefitted more from penalties.
