    Zidan to Hamburg

Would've been nice to see him hook up with Mehdi. Anyways, definitely a step in the right direction considering his club Mainz had been relegated.

Hotshot Zidan switches to Hamburg, faces operation

Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan, seen here April 2007, has switched from relegated Mainz 05 to Bundesliga side Hamburg and is set to sign a four-year contract worth five million euros.

BERLIN (AFP) - Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan will switch from relegated Mainz 05 to Bundesliga side Hamburg in a four-year deal worth five million euros, but faces a groin operation, it was revealed on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old had a medical in Hamburg on Wednesday, which discovered a persistent groin problem has not healed properly and needs another operation, but the deal is still expected to go through.

The striker is a proven goal-scorer having netted 13 goals for Mainz in just 15 games after switching from Werder Bremen midway through the season and will be able to train with his new club when pre-season training starts this summer.

Having won seven caps for his country, Zidan has already met with Hamburg's Dutch coach Huub Stevens, who was interested in signing the Egyptian during the Bundesliga's winter break last season, but Mainz got him first.

The clubs have already agreed the transfer and Zidan is pleased to be heading to Hamburg.

"I'm really looking forward to playing for Hamburg, they are moving in the right direction," said Zidan.

The deal is expected to be confirmed on Saturday and Zidan is the second high-profile Mainz player to quit the relegated side in two days.

German international defender Manuel Friedrich signed a three-year deal to switch to Bayern Leverkusen on Tuesday.

Still disappointed Werder let him go. But the forward position was filled, and he wasn't ever going to get picked ahead of Germans.

HSV will be a great fit for him, he and VDV will have some highlights for sure.

The guy has a new funky haircut every week it seems. He had "Z"s shaved on the side of each head before. I think the hypnosis thing works better against opponents .

I think that's the only reason most people opened this thread
