Remember that Ghana kind of lucked out because Cze's best player Koller(Sp?) this very tall forward who is like thier main threat, got injured in the Cze USA game. Also, USA was not really as strong as people thought at that point I think they had USA ranked as high as #5 in the world. Basically Ghana beat a Cze team without their best player and an overrated USA team.
Some Ghana fan told me that The Israeli flag thing was because many of their players at the time played their professional football in Israel. Nothing more nothing less they were just supporting Israel because theat's where they play football. I'm sure their buddies said, "Hey guys remember us when you play in the WC."

I also don't care how well you play if you can't finish and lose 3-0 that's a bad result. If they would of lose to Brazil like 2-1 or 1-0 I would say they played well. I'm not going to give props to a team that lost by a score of 3-0. I'm not saying Ghana is a bad team but they are just the popular cute team right now. Someone here mentioned it last WC it was Senegal that were the darlings of the WC. In WC 98 it was Nigeria that impressed a lot of people before getting killed by Denmark in the knockout stages. I believe they lost 4-0 or something like that. Every WC some African team makes a nice little run to the knockout stages and they become the darlings of football.

My bad in WC2002 Senegal made it to the fianl eight they were unlucky to lose to Turkey in my opinion. Still case in point where is Senegal today? They didn't even qualify for the WC2006 my friends.

Ghana is a good team, correction, Very good team, but are not the best in Africa, Ivory Coast was only unlucky to be seeded with Argentina and Holland, which they barely lost to anyway...
Nigeria and Cameroon are also up there with the best african teams
      thankyou

There were no conspiracies man lol. And quite the contrary, history would tell us FIFA is actually more accepting of African teams strangely being eliminated early when possible. Look at 1982, when Germany and Austria played to the only result that would allow both of them to advance over Algeria from the group stage! (http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/archive...lts/index.html)

Or in 1998... when it became clear Morocco was going to advance via their 3-0 win over Scotland, Norway miraculously scored two goals in the dying minutes (including a ridiculous penalty late) to beat Brazil 2-1 and advance instead.

KC, Ghana was the best African team at the 2006 World Cup, granted, but for the entire calendar year? While they're certainly in the discussion, I think the rest of their 2006 would ultimately put them behind Ivory Coast as the team last year. It would be unfair not to include Egypt in the discussion as well. Though they deservedly won the Nations Cup and had few problems doing so, Ivory Coast was the better side in 2006 as a whole. Ghana had a woeful Nations Cup (very uncharacteristic of them) and couldn't even get out of their group.

Meanwhile, Nigeria and Cameroon have been no where close to the discussion of best of African team over the past couple of years.

IMO, the best African teams of 2006:

        1) Ivory Coast (Consistent all year long, made it to the final of the Nations Cup only to lose on penalties. Qualified for the World Cup from Africa's toughest group)

        2) Ghana (Played some eye-pleasing football and reached the last 16 at the World Cup. Other than that they did nothing, qualified from a poor group in WC qualifying and had a bad Nations Cup. Still, doing well at the World Cup is worth more than what they didn't do vis a vis Egypt, which is why I rank them above the Pharaohs for 2006.)

        3) Egypt (Won a record 5th African Cup of Nations with the highest goals for/lowest goals against average of all the second round teams. Scored the most goals of all African teams in World Cup qualifying despite being in the toughest group. Single-handedly eliminated Cameroon.)

...no other team was worth mentioning for 2006 in my opinion

Well that's what I meant, the 2006 World Cup, not the entire year.

If Cote D' Ivoire had the group ghana had in the world cup rest assured they would have made it to the last sixteen too!

And they would have put in a much better performance than ghana's 3-0 loss to brazil.
