the question is are we really good enough to become champion since that's the ONLY way to get to the olympics???? I am afraid not even though so far we have not lost a game,,,but winning it all, that's tough guys, I wish Asia had more representatives in the Olympics

if we do not become champions, the qualifying is next summer where 2 spots are open. only the champion on this 2007 asian championship will go to olympics. so asia has 4 spots, one of which is already china because they host

Well Well its all about fighting spirit...Have in mind the Red-Jan the points i pointed out that he is brought a very very young squad with him, and also Rouzbahani who many belive is our best player have been in NBA Drafts and is a great future is sitting on the bench under this coach....

This player is under personal training in California atm....

Want the truth, We are playing some great basketball with this new coach of ours..This Serbian coach knows deffinatly how to manage our squad,

We have Lebanon to take on, And then we need to concentrate on the Semifinals, This upcoming match agasint Lebanon doesnt mean anything as both teams are already through but are fighting for top spot....

I belive in the Semifinals S.korea AND Jordan can once again prove hard tasks for us....S.korea and Jordan are strong teams aswell as Lebanon

But the way we have been playing..Knocking out both Qatar and Philipines i belive we have a chance to go all the way...

But as the Iran coach says...

We need to turn our confidence into performance EVERY GAME to be Champions...

Time will tell my friend....Good luck to the boys

Earlier this year in William Jones basketball tournament, a 12 year tournament Iran finished 3rd in the ladder AFTER Lebanon and Jordan specifically.....

So ii think i was right in predicting Jordan and Lebanon will be hard....
In that same tournament Qatar defeated us as they finished LAST......

In 2006 Iran beat Jordan in the Asian Games 3rd place fightoff.......

But in WABA 2006 HELD in Lebanon..Iran finished on top of the group AHEAD of Lebanon and Jordan who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.....

Lebanon and Jordan have been strong teams in the past 5-6 years...But in the last 2-3 years Iran has catched up and i dare to say we are better then both of them now......

Iran,Jordan,S.korea,Lebanon are the favourites to win this tournament

You are wrong! Please note that the champion of this tournament directly qualify for the Olympics and the 2nd and 3rd placed teams will get chance to compete with teams from other continents on 7-13th July 2008 for other tickets to the Olympics.

Therefore, if you win over Lebanon, you will meet the runner-up of Group II which must be weaker than the winner of Group II and easier for you to go to the final. If you go to the final, even if you lose you still have a chance to compete for another ticket in the FIBA Qualifying Tournament to be held on 7-13th July 2008.

But if you lose against Lebanon, you have to play against the winner of Group II. And if you lose in the semifinal, you have to compete with the loser of the other semifinal for the right to participate in the FIBA Qualifying Tournament.

Therefore, winning over Lebanon is important.

Of course winning is important, Its crucial....
And i think thats whats in the mind of the players and the coach...

I was just noting that we are still through to the Semifinals despite any result over Lebanon..

But we should deffinatly beat Lebanon and send a message going undefeated to the Semifinals and strike fear in Jordan and S.korea....

Good luck boys...I will try and give live update of the match VS Lebanon aswell

Asia is confirmed to get 2 spots only (one for China as the host and one for the champion of this Asian FIBA Championship). The 2nd and 3rd placed team of this championship will get right to compete with other teams from other continents in the FIBA Qualifying Tournament to be held on 7-13th July 2008. But the FIBA site does not tell us how many spots are allocated for the qualifying tournament.

Yes, I hope Iran can beat Lebanon. I also noticed Iran is getting stronger and stronger. With many tall players, I hope Iran can catch up China at soonest. Asia needs several teams with the strength like China otherwise we will be outplayed by Africa.

For those who do not have 300+ channels satellite like Karimi owns you can watch the live video of the Iran - Lebanon match at the FIBA site at 6 pm Japan time (GMT+9) http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/07/...6187/live.html

                        Cheers!

The other group became widely open after Kazakhstan beat Korea 75-73. If Jordan beat Japan later, 3 teams will have 2 wins 1 loss standing.

You guys have no idea....We lost to Lebanon....But i watched the match against Qatar...And i watched this match in the 1st quarter......

The coach did not use 3 players including our top blocker.........

I dnt know why...But a loss is a loss...Now lets concentrate on The Semifinals....

                                We can beat Lebanon!!!
