In fairness to the Tunisians, they were litterally playing with a predominately B and even C squad. Still a horrible result though. Credit Guinea too... they're definitely a formidable side (better than Togo and Angola who are going to the World Cup at least) and they finished the group stage with 9 points!

Amir H F, the teams that have clinched a spot in the quarterfinals are:

Egypt, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Congo DR (Zaire), Guinea, and Tunisia

...after tomorrow, 2 of the following 3 will round out the quarterfinals depending on how the results go: Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal (it looks like it will be Nigeria and Ghana advancing)

The matchups have not all been settled yet, but what we know so far:

              Egypt vs. Congo DR (Zaire)

              Cameroon vs. Ivory Coast

Guinea vs. Second Place Group D (Nigeria, Ghana, or Senegal)

First Place Group D (Nigeria, Ghana, or Senegal) vs. Tunisia

pharaoh thats a nice pic. but from whaat i hear the attendance for the tournament has been very low, why is that? good luck in the quarter finals by the way, i saw mido play last month against manchester, hes a powerhouse

Well the attendance was poor at the begining of the tournament (except for Egypt matches and when some other big teams played).

However the attendence has picked up quite a bit, and some are now saying it's been one of the best attended Nations Cups in quite some time. In fact, there are security concerns as some stadiums have had a bit too many people in them (fake tickets).

I think the matches that took place during the day time were the poorly attended ones. The evening matches had better attendence, with people off of work and so forth. And of course, people's attention in Egypt has been on other things besides football lately (the presidential and parlimentary "elections" recently ended), which is rare. People became pretty fed-up with the team after we failed to make the World Cup again.

Thanks for the well-wishes bro. Beating Ivory Coast was pretty huge, as it looks like we'll be able to avoid most of the other powerhouses until the final insha Allah.

Lua Lua and his DR Congo side are pretty tricky, but hopefully we'll take care of them despite the absence of Mido and Abo Treika.

I think we'll play kinda sloppy until late on. I predict 2-0 to Egypt insha Allah; two second half goals.

What a match. Strength, pace, and technical aptitude rolled into one for Senegal and Guinea. The Teranga Lions edge their West African brothers 3-2 in the first quarterfinal.

Both teams are strong, fast, and have good touch on the ball. Both have a healthy core of players playing in Europe. The difference seemed to be experience.

Senegal will play the winner of Egypt vs. Congo DR in the semifinals.
