Iraq bomb strikes football fans killing 27

Fans have been celebrating the victory across Baghdad
A car bomb has exploded in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killing at least 27people as they celebrated the victory of their country's football team.
The bomb exploded in the city's Mansour district as fans marked their win against South Korea in the Asian Cup.

Police said that at least 60 people had been injured in the attack, when the car exploded in the excited crowd.

Thousands had gathered on the streets of Baghdad, dancing and chanting in a rare moment of national unity.

"I was in a car with my friends, people all around were celebrating and then there was a huge explosion and a lot of fire," one eyewitness, who asked not to be named, told the Agence France-Presse news agency.

Separately, at least one person was reported to have died after being hit by stray bullets fired in celebration, an Arab tradition popular in a city awash with guns.

Celebrations marking the national team's football victory also took place in other major cities in Iraq.

"I am nearly crying for joy," 30-year-old fan Nuri al-Najjar told Reuters in the southern city of Basra.

"Iraq's victory with this harmonious team represents the way we should all live together."

Why is Iraqi blood so CHEAP?

Unbelievable. These Wahabi/Salafi scum are relentless. May they burn in hell for eternity.

What sick, demented people would slaughter people celebrating in the streets.

it's just weird even to see them come this far, and i have a strong feeling that someone is pulling some strings and had plan this out to have iraq in final, maybe there is also a reason for iran's early exit out of the tournament. again yes there is no evidence it's just my ideology. and also to see both arab countries that again makes me all wonder LOL man i tell you today you can't trust anything, we have to like question everything, it's so sad. so hard to live in today society.

but i do hope IRAQ wins!!!!!! i think they deserve it

True but I don't think this act is something that Americans would do that's all I'm saying. As our friend Iraqfootball pointed out these Wahabi scum are relentless

i saw this the other day and just got extremely angry.

i mean for god sakes i dont care if its sunni or shia, i knew some of these groups will do anything just to cause more turmoil, but even i didnt expect something like this. this is just beyond dirty and unbelievable even in a place like present day iraq. damn them to hell.
There's nothing we can do now about what has already happened.
Now is the time to look ahead.

*Note: I am referring to our football team here, not government.*
