          the greatest left back EVER.

I wish he could have played a couple of seasons more at madrid he is still good, he left a little too early in my opinion.

He is definitely not the greatest left-back ever. The greatest left-back is Maldini, and in no way shape or form can that be denied.

Carlos was never a defensively smart player. You can probably say he was the best attacking fullback - Maldini just had it all, whether it be a diving tackle to save a goal, or a bullet of a shot into the top corner of the net.
We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

I have to disagree....Even though i Belive Carlos and Malidi are both fantastic at their positions....

Best left back i have ever seen in my life was Lizarazu...I seriously belive despite alot of talk about other players that this guy was AT his best, up there.....

Mybe not the best EVER..Cant go that far...but up there..and not to far off Maldini or Carlos...nd am being serious when i say Lizarazu

I agree 100% with Faraz, he is and always will be one of the best but Maldini was THE best

You can't really argue who's the best because I can argue Carlos had more skill on the ball, far more speed running after defenders and running down the flanks. Not to mention Carlo's shot's and their power. You can't even compare Maldini's shooting power and technique to Carlos.

Even in defense, Carlos was very similar to Cannavaro's style, but Cannavaro was mentally stronger and one the world player of the year award, meaning that he was better than Maldini defensively.

And to top it off, Carlos won a world cup while actively being involved in all of the games.

I got to agree with you on that one PersianMadrid. When Carlos was in his prime that guy was just a beast and he was so versatile. We probably won't see another player like him for a long time.

You two were born too late my friends.
There is no way you can compare the Legand Maldini with Carlos.

Carlos is/was a good defender, perhaps the best LB after Maldini the great.
If you guys have any doubts, just watch WC90 and 94 when Carlos was watching the games from a black and white TV.

You can't compare what Maldini has accomplished with Carlos, Maldini's career is more colorful than him, although Carlos was impressive too:

                        Roberto Carlos:

                        [edit
                        2007.Paolo Maldini:

HonoursMaldini has played in eight European Cup and Champions League finals (1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2003, 2005 and 2007), a record jointly held with Francisco Gento; Maldini has five winners' medals (1989, 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2007).

Putting honors aside, Maldini has been with Milan since 1984 and obviously has achieved many awards alongside legendary Milan sides. That's 24 years with Milan

But look at Carlos's 10 years with Real Madrid and all that he has achieved with his other clubs moving from .

                          Career Goals:
                          Roberto Carlos: 152 goals
                          Maldini: 64

So obviously offensively R.Carlos is much more superior offensively 3X.

Just imagine if Carlos was brought up in Madrid's youth system and was as consistent as Maldini with Milan. If this were true it would be fair to double Carlos's statistics against Maldini's, and then they wouldn't even be comparable

Anyways, I have nothing against Maldini, he is truly a legend. However in terms of physical talent, I think that Carlos is better in the left back spot.

very good argument. IMo Carlos winning the world cup along with his other achievements pretty much outweighs all of Maldini's achievements. Nothing else compares to winning the world cup!

                              Maldini forever

im afraid most football fans judge a player by glimpses of greatness instead of overall consistency.
