however the better player was Maldini. He was a solid rock who did the job he was given with a minimum fuss.

R.Carlos was a liability at the worst of times and the best example was the 98 World cup when he was at fault for both Zidane goals. There were many times when he was caught out of position.

R.Carlos may have been the more exciting player but Maldini was by far the better Left Back or Left "defender" as it is known as.
agree with everything...but i dont think carlos was to blame for either of the goals vs france in 98

Want to talk about world cups?

Roberto Carlos played in every game during the 2002 World Cup and won it.

A great player is shown when he can shine without the opprotunity of staying in a club such AC Milan for 24 years.

                  L. Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers. Oh that's right we are talking about futbol not football. Well in that case Roberto Carlos hands down my friends. He has shown consistency and the guy just could make long range missile shots into the net.

Bro, Carlos had no reason to try to do a scissor kick in defence but he did and the ball went for a corner and Zidane scored his first goal from that corner.
The second goal Zidane scored went thru Carlos' legs when he had front post.

I may be harsh or not but imo that is two goals he cost them.

He was pure entertainment and nothing more. Im glad he never played for my team to be honest.

corners happen. if you get scored off a corner you cant blame the guy who made the corner happen.

you are rite man but u miss my point, The ball should never have gone for a corner. Carlos could have kicked out easily but he chipped it up to kick it further and he mis-chipped it and it went out for a corner. Totally un-necessary.

I also think the guy fluked a few free kick and that is why he is loved more.

There is at least 10-15 ppl that have been better then him at free kicks.

With all due respect, this is one of silly poll.

Maldini is a legend, Carlos is just a good defender. That's the difference. Ask the people who know soccer, not a bunch of 16 year old Brazilian fans (uhum uhum, Milad kind!)
