Persianbruin even I am being realistic here because we all know that Oregon is a different team without Dennis Dison. Not only that but Brady Leaf even went down. I know injuries are apart o the game but I'm not too crazy about the win against Oregon.
      1) USC players who graduated in 1994,1995,1996,1997 and 1998 never beat UCLA so there is no shame in that!!

      2) I REALLY dont wanna hear about injuries. If there is one university you dont wanna talk to about injuries is UCLA. If you didnt notice, UCLA had 4th string QB and 4th string RB playing most of the game with RB being a non-scholarship walk on. But the defense was amazing. Oregon never got inside UCLA 30

      3) USC is gonna beat UCLA by 40 points or more. Its mostly timing. UCLA is struggling with injuries and USC is on a roll. AS I told Saam they finally developed a chemistry. If I am OSU I am prying I can get into the national championship game or its USC-oklahoma of 3 years ago all over again.

I was at the Gym when OSU and illinois were playing. I was watching a another game but also was lookin at the other screen where there was no sound. Several times I saw the running back running with the defenders chasing them and since I had no audio for the game. I thought the plays ere dead and the players were just movin slowly after the refs blew the whistle but shockingly they hadnt and that was the ACTUAL speed of the game!!!!

Later I talked to my uncle who is USC class of 80 and is a football nut on thanksgiving and I asked him has BIG 10 always been like that or is this something new?? He said its always been like that. BIG 10 is slow but they are stronger. PAC10 is very quick but not as strong physically. Ithink we saw that CLEARLY in the Michigan-oregon game, where the 39-7 score didnt do the justice really. Granted OSU is a much better team than MIchigan but todays USC is a much better team than oregon of september.

Problem is the trojans have both speed and strength. Honestly I am looking at a 40+ loss by the bruins this weekend. But again that is why they play the games. It would be interesting to see OSU-USC even though I am ure you want that NC game

I on the other hand was very impressed with how USC handled the game. It just goes to show you how good USC can really be when they are fully healthy. They punked #6 Arizona State something like 44-24. I don't remember the exact score but basically ASU only hanged with USC in the first quarter.

Persianbruin I have been watching Big 10 football now for the past oh 12 years or so. As far as i can remember the Big 10 is really like what your uncle described. Purdue University was one of the first schools to break out of the mold of the traditional Big 10 win with defense and running the football. It didn't hurt that they had a quarterback named Drew Brees. Now more and more teams are ditching the traditional Big 10 style and going fo rsomething more modern. Northwestern University runs the spread and they can compete in the Big 10, despite the lack of recruiting. Under John L Smith, for 4 years, MSU ran the spread as well and could put points on the board. The problem is that they coudn't stop anyone on defense under JLS.

Michigan and Ohio State are similar in the fact that traditionallly they both rely on defense and the ground attack. Big 10 players are not generally speaking very quick, but they are strong indeed. Pac 10 players are more speedy but not as strong as big 10 players.

In the modern game though, it's the Pac 10 style which is the way to go. I see that more and more Big 10 teams are turning into Pac 10 teams, in terms of style. I say in about 5 years the majority of Big 10 teams will pass the ball more instead of running.

The thing is that the style of a typical Big 10 Offense is to use the ground attack to force 8 men in a box on defense. Once they put 8 in a box, you hit them with a play action pass for big yardage
. The short and intermediate quick relase, 3 step drop, is more of a Pac 10 style. They do this because you spread the defnese out. Once you spread the defense you run the ball for big yardage.

Basically it's the exact opposit of Big 10 football.

the thing bout tressel that i like is that he changes his team's style of play based on the players he has, right now we're a physical team that runs up the middle and beats a team down....last yr, w/ teddy and troy and gonzo we were a team of speed and played the spread offense a lot

i dunno tho guys, i still wasnt SO impressed by USC, dont get me wrong, it'll be a toughazz game if we play em but i think we would hav it
