Southern Cal? The teams to lose wile ranked #2 were USC, Cal, Boston College, South Florida University, and West Virginia.

This was the year of #2 curse!

I didn't mention Oregon because it's not their fault Dennis Dixon went down. That was just a FREAK BAD LUCK and they had the chance to play in the National Championship. They just got an unlucky break and when Dixon went down their team went down.

You remind me of me in 1993 when I started watchin football. It was great year!! I watched ucla beat usc while watchin the game with 5 usc alums and we beat them for another 5 years after that. In the second quarter of the Rose Bowl telecast on Tuesday, ABC interviewed UCLA's new coach who was sitting in the stands. He recommended that Illinois throw more on first down. Then they showed a clip of the last time the Illini were in the Rose Bowl -- 1984, when they were plummeted by UCLA's tandem of QB Rick Neuheisel and WR Karl Dorel.

I remember when UCLA would take USC to the shed in the 90's. It eventually cost coach John Robinson his job. After John Robinson things went from bad to worse when USC hired Paul Hackett (SP?) That is when USC was in the dark ages and everything went wrong for them.

Most USC fans don't know this but Pete Carroll was NOT A POPULAR CHOICE. In fact the AD at USC had to stop taking calls because they were all hate calls on the hire of former NE coach Pete Carroll. Now the first two years USC had modest performances going like 6-6. On the 3rd year oh man Pete Carroll WAS ON THE HOT SEAT BIG TIME.

If Pete Carroll didn't make it to the Orange Bowl beating Iowa, he might of been fired right there after that season.

Can you imagine USC without Carroll?

Ya I got VT on this little pool we have going on here. Once the bowl games are all over I"ll calculate the total but I did great in January 1 and BCS bowls MINUS THE OKLAHOMA GAME WHICH KILLED ME.

Biggest disappointments of the college football season this year

LOUISVILLE ranked in the top 10 pre season poll and finished something like 6-6.
California-In the hunt for a National Championship and taked the 2nd half of the season
South Carolina ranked #6 at one time tanking their last five
USC-all the hype surrounding the team and they could not make it to the national championship.
Arkansas being a dark hours in winning the SEC and finishing like 6-6
UCLA-Ranked in the top 20 only to tank the season, part of it due to injuries
Michigan-A national contender until they played their first game and lost to Applacian State at the big house followed by losing 3 more games.

Biggest Surprise
Kansas -going from nothing to playing in a BCS game
Kentucky being a FOOTBALL POWER
Boston College returning back to a college football power
Michigan State making it to a bowl game after a four year absence.
Pittsburgh shocking WVU
USC losing to STANFORD
Michigan losing to Applacian State
Illinois going from 2-10 last year to a Rose Bowl appearance

i think u can throw us in there for a surprise this yr as well, a hardcore fan would say yeh sure, we expected OSU to be there this yr, but realistically, nah....look at my first post in this thread regarding OSU and how wack we would be this yr, and now we're playing for the national championship, wtf lol

Carroll is a good coach but not s good as his record. However, he has been an outstanding recriuter and that is why usc has been able stay competitive. With these players usc has right now a "great" coach would have something like a 50 game winning streak.
