    RE: Illinois v USC

    My quick thoughts...

    - Illinois' offense put up 433 yards in the game, the most on a USC defense since Vince Young's Texas defeated the Trojans in the 2005 championship game. RB Rashard Mendenhall alone gained 215 all-purpose yards.

    - At one point in the 3rd quarter it was 21-10 despite Illinois having come up empty in the red zone THREE times -- the two fumbles/strips yards away from the end zone, and a missed field goal after Justin Harrison's fantastic interception of a John David Booty put Illinois on a first-&-goal when it was only 14-0.

    - Yes, the Illini didn't belong in the Rose Bowl against USC. But don't blame them. Blame the retarded BCS setup, which put a good Illinois team who finished *third* in the Big Ten against the PAC-10s best team, a team which undoubtedly should be playing in the national championship game.

    - The Rose Bowl went with tradition not just for folklore but because of money generated by the THOUSANDS of Illini fans who filled the streets of Pasadena for the entire weekend and painted nearly half the Rose Bowl with orange, including yours truly

thank u thank u thank u...21-10 and it shouldve been closer at that point, i think illinois was too young and let the hype scare them and not allow them to play their game, after the first 2 touchdowns i told my boy they had the deer in the headlights look

wow, wtf happened last night to OU???? i did noooooot expect that one bit, that shit was like playstation! lol

We need to remember that USC was playing essentially a home game. Nothing neutral about the venue.

Even though as I mentioned Illini fans were rocking the joint, USC was playing in its hometown, in the region where most of their players are from, and in a game they've been in so many times with Pete Carroll its not even funny. Illinois hadn't even been to one bowl game, let alone a game of this magnitude, since their trip to the 2002 Sugar Bowl against LSU.

The USC players afterwards kept talking about how they "own the Rose Bowl", meaning they love winning at UCLA's home turf. They're right. Aside from the anomaly against the Bruins in the last game of '06, the Trojans record under Pete Carroll for games taking place at the Rose Bowl is staggering.

Rose bowl has not been that good to the trojans actually. 1 loss in 2006 and one loss in 2005 season at the rose bowl each has cost the trojans a national championship and a year like this year they made it to the rose bowl b/c they failed to mak it to the NC game.

Rose bowl doesnt have the meaning it used to have since the BCS thing started. It no longer has been the "ultimate" prize for the big10/pac10 teams.
Its funny how teams who make it there try to seem like its the ultimate prize but unless you are playing for the national championship it dont mean crap

In 1998(well, jan 1st 1999) ucla as a result of their failure to win their last game of the season were penalized and instead of playing in the fiesta bowl fo national championship HAD to play at the rose bowl. All of the players were disappointed and gave the most uninspired performance I have ever seen by a bruin team

Two words RON DAYNE. I remember that day and UCLA's own arrogance was their own downfall. They got smacked by Miami the week before and that killed their fiesta bowl chances. Instead of regrouping and refocusing against a good Wisconsin team, they pouted and got smacked by the Badgers. I kind of was happy Wisconsin won because I always thought Cade McNown was an overrated ****y little piece of crap(no offense).

and u could see it in their c0cky attitudes, and it starts from the top w/ their coach, wtf? he's up by however much and he's still going for another TD in the final minutes? and for all the dancing on the sideline, flipping into the end zone and howww many late hits and cheap shots, it was horrible

USC is a great team and i love their football and their players, but damn i hate that fkng attitude, very classless and low of them

                  1) ucla wasnt arragont. The defense wasnt that good year and was hit with many injuries. The only good player they had left was injured in the first half (brendon ayanbedajo of the chicago bears)

                  2) it wasnt just the last game. It was are scheduled game which ucla should and could have not rescheduled. It wasnt their faut there was a hurricane in miami in september

                  3) you dont have a 20 game winning streak in the NCAA football by being arrogant which ucla had at the time

                  4) cade mcnown was never suppose to be a good NFL QB. the bears coach was dumb to select him. He was a great "college" QB and he proved it on the field

5)the whole month of december between the miami loss and the wisconsin loss, the players were depressed thorwing jabs at each other. HC was blaming the defensive coordinator and nobody really wanted to play in the rose bowl. It wasnt just the players, it was the fans too. I wanted to go to arizona for the national championship, and after that defeat i didnt even wanna watch the rose bowl. This is what I mean by the rose bowl not being the "ultimate" prize anymore and 1998 was the first time it happened

carroll's f'ed up attitude cost him a couple of blue chippers last year and its going that direction. With the charisma of neuheisel and the respect D walker has we will own this town again very soon

UCLA, Illinois, and the Rose Bowl

In the second quarter of the Rose Bowl telecast on Tuesday, ABC interviewed UCLA's new coach who was sitting in the stands. He recommended that Illinois throw more on first down. Then they showed a clip of the last time the Illini were in the Rose Bowl -- 1984, when they were plummeted by UCLA's tandem of QB Rick Neuheisel and WR Karl Dorel.

Speaking of UCLA quarterbacks, today the Bruins might have picked up their future ace from the midwest to westwood.

Trust me Ryan Mallet is a headcase he is anything but but an Ace quarterback. When he would come in even in a traditional Lloyd Carr pro style offense, he struggled BIG TIME. There is a reason why Michigan suffered when Chad Hennee would go down.

                          Ryan Mallet = head case

You guys might as well go for Jimmy Claussen while you are out it to complete the set of douschebag midwest overrated quarterbacks.

Ya I got VT on this little pool we have going on here. Once the bowl games are all over I"ll calculate the total but I did great in January 1 and BCS bowls MINUS THE OKLAHOMA GAME WHICH KILLED ME.

Biggest disappointments of the college football season this year

LOUISVILLE ranked in the top 10 pre season poll and finished something like 6-6.
California-In the hunt for a National Championship and taked the 2nd half of the season
South Carolina ranked #6 at one time tanking their last five
USC-all the hype surrounding the team and they could not make it to the national championship.
Arkansas being a dark hours in winning the SEC and finishing like 6-6
UCLA-Ranked in the top 20 only to tank the season, part of it due to injuries
Michigan-A national contender until they played their first game and lost to Applacian State at the big house followed by losing 3 more games.

                              Biggest Surprise
Kansas -going from nothing to playing in a BCS game
                              Kentucky being a FOOTBALL POWER
Boston College returning back to a college football power
Michigan State making it to a bowl game after a four year absence.
                              Pittsburgh shocking WVU
                              USC losing to STANFORD
                              Michigan losing to Applacian State
