Americans just don't care about football or as they call it Soccer. In America NFL is the king of all soprts(National Football League) American football. They also play baseball and basketball but soccer is not a priority. I don't htink Beckhan is going to be an ambassador to soccer here in the United States. If Pele coudn't do it when he was playing in the USFL with the NY Cosmos, I don't think Beckham will be able to do it as well. They hype will die in a few months and after that people just won't care anymore. Right now there is an interst but it will die. Really the only way soccer gets support is like thorugh Latan Amercians, Persian Americans, Asian Americans etc.

Actually times are a little different now. Americans are catching on kinda but the blame is on the sports channels like ESPN that dont talk about it.

See its all about the money, all the sport channels show whatever has the most money in it. Its not only soccer they dont show but there are lots of other sports that they dont show...volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, track&field, etc...

btw, american football is forced down on them. Not too many people are into it, there are the hardcore fans and everyone else just tags along cuz of drinking and bbq on sundays.

they can't even get NHL (National Hockey League) going!!!!! lol but it's gradually growing though and i think it'll take time for MLS to get to its prime. i say another probably 10 years or so. i mean MLS has was formed just like what 11 years ago?? it's still a very very young league

yeah i know. im sick of seeing all these dumb baseball highlights. and up to thursday nights they are still showing NFL sunday games. its a shame, i miss nhl 2 nite with barry melrose. the opening theme song always gives me goosbumps. it sucks man watching ESPN, getting home from a Sharks game, trying to see the crazy fight or the amazing break away goal or some crazy series of saves. damn ESPN. and also when i want to see the results of games(on the bottom of the tv) during the beginning of the season i have to wait like an hour because the damn MLB shiit is there. who gives a damn what the pitchers record is. or if a guy went 0-4. where in hockey they just show the score and sometimes say who scored.

Baseball highlights have to be the most annoying part of north American sport television, especially when you're waiting for a 30 second soccer highlight to be continued by another 2 hours of baseball highlights that look exactly the same as the first 2 hours.

oh dude i know. remember i think it was friday nights they had highlights of the week, those were like the best and John Buccigross was funny guy always picking on ray ferraro. i know what you mean. since they took hockey off ESPN i don't watch it anymore and it's not the same on V.S ch

The problem with the NHL is that Americans complain, "You can't see the puck well on TV." NHL is catching on and now it's getting big in So Cal now that the Ducks won. It still takes a back seat to the big three
                              1-American Football
                              2-Basketball
                              3-Baseball

The MLS is still doing decent for only being a decade old. I still don't see soccer as passing those three sports in this country in our lifetime. The thing is that advertisement plays a big role in it. You can make money in football, basketball, and baseball because of advertisement. When there is a timeout you go to commercials which is why there is money to be made in the big 3. You can't do that in soccer and that is A HUGE PROBLEM.
