No, Iran plays round robin in a group consists of Korea, Japan and Australia. In another match of this group, Australia beat defending champion Japan with 3-2.

The other group consists of China, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and host Indonesia. Indonesia beat Thailand 3-2 while the result of China - Chinese Taipei is unknown yet.

Though won in straight sets, Korea had to struggle to beat Iran. All 3 sets were very close. All were 2-point margins.

It is so strange that no even one website posting the same day result. I can only get the results from Indonesian Lativi (a local TV) who only broadcasts live the games Indonesia play (everyday on 4 pm local time) and then the highlights on 10.30 pm local time.

The game of Iran - Japan was actually played on 1.45 pm but we could only know the result at the 10.30 pm highlights. Today Iran lost again 0 - 3 so the door for Iran to the semifinals is almost shut.

In the following game played on 4 pm, host Indonesia lost narrowly to Chinese Taipei 2 - 3 (16-25, 25-17, 31-33, 25-21, 16-18).

Then in the next game started on 6.15 pm, Thailand also unexpectedly forced China to extend the game into 5 sets though at last it lost to China. It seems the first time in history that South East Asian teams (Indonesia and Thailand) could force East Asian teams to fight so hard.

The last game between Korea and Australia began on 8.30 pm but at the 10.30 pm highlights the result was not reported yet.

AVC (Asian Volleyball Confederation) do not mention it. But according to a Chinese website (http://2008.sports.tom.com/2007-09-0...57204966.html), the rule is as follows:

Excluding China and Japan, top two in this championship earn berth to take part in the FIVB World Cup which will be held in Japan in November 2007. 12 teams will participate in this World Cup. Host Japan, 5 continental champions, 4 continental runner-ups and 2 wild cards. Top three from this World Cup will qualify to the 2008 Olympics.

Then again excluding China and Japan, top 4 from this championship qualify to the 2008 Olympics Asian Qualifier which will be held in Japan in May 2008.
