Ahmed Yar added that the players were shy when we started the Camp at Islamabad during Ramzan as they had to face King of Asian Football. But the arrival of foreign-based players gave them sigh of relief and they are ready to face any kind of challenge. Pakistan-Iraq football qualifier match Pakistan, Iraq teams have tough training session

LAHORE: The visiting soccer team of the brother Muslim country Iraq Saturday had their training session here at the Model Town Football Academy Ground to prepare for the World Cup qualifier tie.Pakistan will take on Iraq in 19th World Cup Qualifier 2010 here at the Punjab Stadium at 7.30 pm on Monday (tomorrow). The Asian Champions Iraq arrived at Allama Iqbal Airport on Friday through Qatar Airways flight and rested in the hotel but hey had a tough training session on Saturday. The gold medallist in 14th Asian Cup, looked very fresh and agileand had different drills and seemed very skillful. Iraq, who lost to Qatar 2-3 recently in a friendly international, will be looking for a win against four-times SAF Gold medallist Pakistan in Asian Phase (Second Round- first leg).

The team management is going to hold a pre-match press conference in the afternoon today (Sunday).

Meanwhile, Pakistan soccer team also had a training session to give their strategy a final touch ahead of their tough tie. Pakistan team is boosted with the inclusion of six English players of Pakistan-origin and the combination is going to give a surprise to the visitors on Monday.

Manager Pakistan team Irfan Khan Niazi looked very confident and said that they would go all out to make their mark against the formidable Iraq team. He continued that the match against the champions is going to give a great boost to the Pakistan team as they will get a chance to play against he best opponents.

“We are looking forward to the match against Iraq and hope that our foreign-based players will provide their best ability,” he added.

Pakistan has included six foreign players in 25-member squad that included Birmingham-born Zeeshan, who is currently playing for Queen’s Park Rangers, midfielder Amjad Iqbal, defender Adam Luke Karim, midfielder Adnan Farooq Ahmed, striker Fouzal Azeem Bashir and striker Assad Ahmed.

Niazi admired President PFF Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat for providing every possible facility to the players and hoped that players are confident to show something special against formidable Iraqi team who came here as Asian Champion. “Faisal’s financial and morale support was a great boost for the team who wanted to bring laurels to the country,” he maintained.

To a question, he said that they would depend on defence and offense as Iraq is a very strong opposition and superior to them at number 65 as compared to them at 179 in latest FIFA Ranking.

The arrangements for the match are almost final while the event management is giving final touches to the arrangements at the venue. The Punjab stadium is going to be decorated with colourful buntings and hoardings. The entree to the stadium is going to be free for the spectators while the management is inviting hundreds of soccer lovers to come and watch the match and support Pakistan team.

Its a chaotic mess back home. I dont know who's the enemy and what do they want and who is controlling them. I'm sick of the mess

Maybe a Vatican-type deal should be given to Pakistan's most religious city (i.e.,
Peshawar or the frontier towards Afghanistan) to end this mess. The fanatical interpreters of Islam (i.e., The Taliban) don't want to see any sort of
modern or democratic progress in the country and are willing to kill innocent people to prevent it from happening. Maybe if something was done to disperse or
appease them the rest of the country could live in peace although corruption
in politics is another big problem.

I know this doesn't directly relate to football, but it is part of the reason the Pakistani footballer died. May he RIP.

Trust me there are no 'religious' cities per se here in Pakistan. The Taliban mess is going around in the Waziristan tribal agency and its more or less confined there.

Plus the ultra-right religious government of the MMA in the province of NWFP is now out of power after the Governor dissolved the provincial assembly and quit frankly even the MMA was hated for its stupidity and nonsensical laws among even the most religious of Pasthuns/Pathans there. The upcoming elections will the see the more secular left-wing parties winning the elections and then solving this mess of radical madrassa teens causing nonsense in the cities.
