    Korea players baned...

    #2
ummm is this for a real or some sort of joke? banned for 3 years? is this the same goalie who saved korea's ass against japan? and since when do they play in an FA cup under the KFA? that article doesn't really make sense...it sounds like some sort of punishment you'd get in north korea.

yeah i read about it on a couple of other sites. they had hookers with them too if they knew this had happened though, why did they allow them to play the remaining games at the tournament? 3 years is a bit too harsh though.

lol That sounds like something that our players woudl pull(J/K). Seriously though this shows a lack of professionalism on their part. Even Michael Jordan got ripped hard by the media when the Chicago Bulls were playing the Phoenix Suns. They ripped Jordan because he would be gambling up to like $500,000 A NIGHT until late in the morning right before like a crucial game in the NBA finals.

The moral of the story is that if they are going to rip Jordan who in the hell does Lee Woon-jae think he is?

FYI many people think that they killed Jordan's father because of his mounting gambling debts.

yeah ive heard those rumors. I also heard that the reason jordan retired was because Stern was fed up with his gambling. But since its michael effing jordan, he couldnt publcily ban him so he privately told him to 'take a break'.

The Korean news don't mention any hookers. But I agree that the sentencing is too harsh. What are they thinking? At least we don't have to see Kim Sang-sik play. I saw this guy get red carded four times, and he gave away balls through a back pass too many times.

anyways, better for us, cause now if we meet korea in the world cup qualifiers, we won't have to play them with their goalie

SEOUL: Four members of Korea Republic's national football squad were Friday suspended from the team for a year over a late-night drinking spree during the AFC Asian Cup 2007™.

Striker Lee Dong-Gook, who also plays for English Premier League side Middlesbrough, goalkeeper Lee Woon-Jae, defender Kim Sang-Sik and forward Woo Sung-Yong were suspended, the Korea Football Association (KFA) said.

They had been under fire over the night out with female staff at an Indonesian karaoke bar before the 2-1 group-stage loss to Bahrain on July 15.

Goalkeeper Lee, Korea Republic's captain at the time who had been shortlisted for AFC Player of the Year, was also banned from games hosted by the KFA for three years.

He was told to perform 80 hours of community service before the end of this year.

The other three were banned from games hosted by the KFA for two years, along with 40 hours of community service.

But the four are allowed to keep playing in domestic K-league games.

Lee Gap-Jin, head of the KFA disciplinary committee, told reporters the goalkeeper deserved "heavy punishment" for leading the drinking spree as captain.

Lee Woon-Jae, 34, defied rules and left his team base to visit a bar with friends in Indonesia two nights before the loss to Bahrain.

The day after the match he took Lee Dong-Gook and the two others to a karaoke bar in Jakarta, where they drank into the early hours with female hostesses.

The goalkeeper, whose crucial penalty shootout save led South Korea into the semi-finals of a 2002 World Cup match against Spain, burst into tears as he and others offered a tearful plea for forgiveness on Tuesday.

South Korea finished third in the tournament but scored just three goals in six matches. Coach Pim Verbeek later resigned.
do you know why they were only banned till now and how they got caught?
