Dubai: The annual massacre of the first division coaches has resulted in 11 scalps so far, in mid-season, out of the 12 teams.
The sole survivor is German Al Ahli's Winfried Schaefer whose contract runs till the end of the 2006-2007 season.
It is not the contract which guarantees a coach's life span, it is the clubs' winning streak. Most of those terminated were due to poor results forcing the club's board to make the call.
Sharjah's French coach Henry Estamboli was the latest head to roll on Sunday. He had started the season positively and Sharjah were second in the league at the first stage.
They, however, failed to win a game in their last four outings resulting in Estamboli's termination.
Sharjah lost to Al Wahda and Al Shabab and drew with Bani Yas and Al Wasl. They dropped to seventh place with 20 points, 11 adrift of the leaders. Tunisian Wajdi Al Seedi has replaced Estamboli.
German coach Rainer Holleman, who led Al Wahda to the league title last season and the President's Cup final, was sacked 24 hours before Estamboli's departure.
Holleman lost two games in a row against Al Nasr and Al Wasl. This put Al Wahda's lead in jeopardy reducing the difference between them and second placed Al Ahli to just one point after the latter defeated Al Ain. Al Wahda still top the table with 31 points from 14 games.
Al Nasr's Eduard Gayer was also sacked. The Al Nasr supporters and players were not only happy with Gayer's sacking, they were also glad that Brazilian Adilson Pareira was the replacement.
Pareira showed his credentials in Al Nasr's last two games. They beat Al Wahda 3-1 and Emirates 3-0 to jump to fourth place.
