    Racism in the Premiership

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned this matter on this forum. This issue has recieved very little coverage in the English media and has highlighted a relatively new and disturbing trend in English football. The issue I'm referring to is the racism directed towards Tottenham's Egyptian striker Mido on saturday when they played West Ham. Mido has recieved this kind of treatment before in the Carling cup but I think this is the first time its happened in the premiership.

Here is the link to the story from Skyports, but even in this brief article its not treated with much importance.

It doesn't state what they chanted so I had to trawl through a number of newspapers before I found a small article stating what was chanted. West Ham fans chanted 'shoe-bomber' and 'your mums a terrorist'. These chants might sound funny to some people but I'm not laughing. Even the comment made by Paul Stalteri (Mido's teammate) that its a "form of Racism" shows a distinct lack of sensitivity to the issue. It is Racism, there is no grey area and yet the FA have taken no action when it was done in the past and have so far done nothing after Saturday's game.

Now just imagine if that kind Racism was directed towards a Black player or an oriental player. It would be front page news in almost every tabloid newspaper and would most probably be on the News on TV. When black players have been racially taunted in Europe, UEFA has imposed heavy fines and have banned the offending team's supporters from attending future European matches. This kind of double standard cannot be allowed to continue. I for one am glad that there are no Iranians playing in the Premiership at this time because the abuse they would recieve at the hands of these stupid, ignorant, classless, English hooligans would be unbearable.

          Very good point bro.

It comes with the current climate I'm afraid.

It's also why Brazilian dudes get shot for having the temerity to take the free copy of the metro and there's not a big enough outcry.

I think you could interpret it that way.

But how about the "Tork-e Khar" jokes? Are they racism or not?

Or is it that whenever something offends us individually it becomes "bad" and "racism" other wise "it is just for a laugh?"

You see, there are two sides for every story. And we won't be objective if we consider only one aspect of it.
