Italian Police arrest 3 more over riot

ROME (AP) - Three more people have been arrested for allegedly taking part in the riots following the Nov. 11 shooting death of a soccer fan, Italian police said Saturday.

The arrests brings to seven the number of suspects picked up in Rome, where angry fans attacked a police barracks near the stadium and the Italian Olympic Committee's headquarters.

Another 18 people have been previously arrested in Milan and other cities where riots also erupted after news spread about the death of Gabriele Sandri. Enraged by the shooting, rioters smashed windows and hurled stones at police cars.

Police in Rome said the prosecutors were considering terrorism charges against two of the three suspects arrested Saturday.

Sandri, a 26-year-old disc jockey from Rome and a Lazio fan, died after getting hit in the neck by a bullet while sitting in a car at a highway rest stop in Tuscany. Police said an officer fired shots to disperse a scuffle between two groups of rival fans.

The police officer who fired the shot has been placed under investigation for murder.
