Huh Jung-moo is korea's new coach

SEOUL - Chunnam Dragons coach Huh Jung-moo will be unveiled as the new head coach of AFC Asian Cup semi-finalists Korea Republic for a second time on Friday.

Just 24 hours after learning original targets Gerard Houllier and Mick McCarthy had turned down the chance to succeed Pim Verbeek, the Korean Football Association (KFA) have turned to the 52-year-old.

The former Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i and PSV Eindhoven midfielder will return for a second spell in charge of the Tigers after enjoying a two-year spell between 1998 and 2000 before joining Chunnam in 2005.

Huh led Chunnam to back-to-back FA Cup wins and is expected to take up the post immediately.

“We have finished negotiations with Huh Jung-moo and Chunnam and Huh has agreed to become the national team coach of South Korea,” said KFA spokesperson Yoo Young-cheol.
Korea Republic kick-off their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign on February 6 against Turkmenistan.

Verbeek stepped down after guiding Korea Republic to a third-place finish at July’s Asian Cup and was named as the new coach of Australia on Thursday.

Korea has stepped one step closer to their teams destruction. Unless they can produce alot of talent overnight, i dont expect to see them in the WC.

I'm worried about Korea too. I remember watching the Korean team lose to Thailand when Huh Jung-moo was the coach. That's why the KFA fired him if I remember correctly.
But I don't see much hope for any of the Asian teams at this point either. That includes Iran. The Asian teams barely beat each other in the last Asian Cup. What if they face a South American or European team?

You know what I don't see much hope either except for Japan, and perhaps Saudi Arabia because they did play great in the AC except against Iraq.

What I don't get is that Korea is a country with MONEY. Why do they cheap out and get local coaches like Pim and Moo? Why don't they at leat try to get a foreign coach. I know it didn't work with the successor of Gunes but at least make an attempt.

                To review Iran's situation
                1-We have no coach
                2-We have no federation
