Rape Claim Investigated At United Party
Police are today investigating claims that a woman was raped in a hotel, where Manchester United stars were holding their annual Christmas party.
The Great John Street Hotel in Manchester was the scene of the alleged incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police are currently investigating a report of rape at a hotel in Manchester city centre.
"At about 4.15am on Tuesday December 18 2007, police were called to the hotel on Great John Street to a report that a 26-year-old woman had been raped.
"Inquiries are continuing."
At the hotel Sir Alex Ferguson and his squad were being entertained by burlesque dancers, while they had their meal at the boutique Manchester 235 Casino.
The converted Victorian townhouse in the Castlefield area of Manchester is in a fashionable area and popular amongst trendy winers and diners.
A hotel spokeswoman said: "We did have an event on Monday night. We're helping the police with an investigation."
The entire first team was present at the event, except Cristiano Ronaldo, who had a prior engagement.
The squad were reported to have started their evening at the Old Grapes pub, owned by former Coronation Street star Liz Dawn, who played Vera Duckworth in the long running soap.
