can you believe this:
Nashat Akrams appeal TURNED DOWNManchester City have been unsuccessful in their appeal against the rejection of a work permit for Iraqi midfielder Nashat Akram.
A City delegation - headed by boss Sven Goran Eriksson - travelled to the Home Office in London for the hearing.
The panel rejected the club's request to allow the midfielder a permit despite the 21-year-old having an impressive international record.
City had agreed a deal for Akram, who featured in the Iraq side that won last year's Asian Cup, from the Al-Ain club in the UAE.
Eriksson told the club's official website: "This is a big blow and a great disappointment to us. I have huge sympathy for Nashat. He is a very good footballer with an excellent international pedigree.
"He has now returned to the Middle East and we will keep in touch with him. He is somebody who we will maintain an interest in for the long term."
Now look:
Derby have completed the signing of Australian international Mile Sterjovski after he was handed a work permit on appeal.
The Rams saw their move for the Genclerbirligi player held up after his initial permit application was rejected.
However, Derby instantly appealed the decision and, after a Home Office hearing, the player has been granted the permit to allow him to seal his move to Pride Park.
Rams boss Paul Jewell was delighted to be able to push through the move for Sterjovski.
Strong case
"I am delighted with the decision, although we always felt we had a strong case," said Jewell.
"Mile is an international player with Champions League and World Cup experience.
"He will make a fantastic addition to the squad."
Derby are hoping to gain international clearance in time to allow him to make his debut against Preston in the FA Cup this weekend.
This ozzie guy has less caps and plays for a worst team than akram but akram who is much better with the more caps and loads of mvps gets a work permit turned down at 21
