I actually feel some sympathy for Ingrato...

Feelings aside he was one the best football players ever.

when ronaldo was substituted after his hat-trick, all of Old Trafford gave him a standing ovation send-off. he clearly was overwhelmed and broke down in tears.

United 4-3 Real that day, although Real went through 6-5 on aggregate

I have to say, after the 2002/03 season, Ronaldo began a slow but sure downturn in his career...although he already was a mere fraction of the player he was before injury wrecked his Inter Milan career...and its sad that such a great player may have to retire in such a way

I never even used to like football, this guy got me into football and made me interested and made me want to start to play ! If it was not for him I would not be playing with Celtic U-18's right now !

                The guy is brilliant.

Although Celtic have a thing of dragging you along and then cutting you off, they have a bad reputation for it

Well then keep an eye out for Rangers, Queen's Park, Partick Thistle and other Glaswegian clubs there if they dont offer you a professional contract.

But if you play hard, and play smart, you may get the chance.

                      Now back to Ronaldo

I played for my local youth club, then at 12 got scouted and went to Livingston youth, then at 13 I went to Kilmarnock, and then since 14 Celtic, but the thing with Celtic is that only a few each year go up in the ranks, so ie, outta 30 under 14s, 5 make it under 16s, outta the 30 under 16s, 5 make under 18s, only 2 or such will be selected to go to the under 21s ! and outta that a lucky one makes it to the pro squad, I have already been told my semi-pro contract will not be extended, but thank God I am one of the lucky ones who studied as well as play and have applied for uni this year, so many of my friends have put so much effort into thinking they will be pro, only for Celtic to screw with them, one of my friends is now being an apprentice plumber, the other joiner. Celtic have a really bad youth system to be honest, and Rangers youth have OWNED us mostly, but Celtic is the club I have supported since I knew football .

Oh just to reassure you I ain't bsing, I think you were talkin bout that Sherwin guy, lol but i dont do that.

What are you talking about? Why are you bringing up my name in this, did I do anything to you?

Anyways you made the right decision to focus on your studies as a back up plan. Some of my buddies tried to make it to the NFL from college(I am talking American football), They had an easy major and didn't take college seriously. Now they did't even graduate and coudn't make it to the NFL.

American football is quite similar to what you went through. Out of the high school students who play American football, the top 10% probably get a college scholarship. Out of those players again the top 10% probably make it to the pro level. A big High School would have a football team with about a roster of 100. If they are lucky, perhaps one lucky guy will make it.

The odds are stacked against you so the moral of the story is you better have a back up plan. BTW nobody from our HS made it to the pro level.

BRAZILIAN star Ronaldo had surgery on his ruptured left knee ligaments today in an operation he hopes will save his career.

He arrived at the Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital in the back seat of a car with his leg in a brace and an ice pack on his knee.

He then used crutches to walk into the hospital and after a two-hour operation, knee specialist Gerard Saillant said: "The operation took place without any particular problems.

"It was the same injury as the previous time and for this reason the operation was of the same type.

"Now Ronaldo will have to go through nine months of rehabilitation.''

Asked if the Brazilian would play again, Saillant replied: "It will depend on him.''

The three-time FIFA world player of the year was injured in AC Milan's 1-1 draw with Livorno in Italy's Serie A yesterday and is now worried his career may be over.

"He fears for his career,'' Milan president Silvio Berlusconi told Italian television.

"I called him last evening and told him to believe in himself. He has enormous physical potential.

                              "As a 31-year-old, he's very young.

"He has an extraordinary physique, and I think within a few months he could return to being the champion that we all know him as.''

This latest injury occurred two minutes after Ronaldo entered the game during a play that earned Milan an equalising penalty.

The Brazilian was carried from the field in tears.

Ronaldo has battled serious injuries throughout his career, and has played sparingly since joining Milan from Real Madrid in January 2007.

Yesterday's match was only his fifth in Serie A this season after injuring his thigh during preseason training on July 31.

He returned in November, but has been on and off the roster due to a series of recurring problems.

I HOPE HE RETURNS AND BECOMES FIFA WORLD PLAYER AGAIN

i think when he comes back sometime in the middle of the next season, he should use the rest of the season to get back in form for the 2009-2010 season, then try his best. then play in the world cup and retire.
