Uefa have told Sky Sports News that they are exploring the possibility of handing Cardiff a wild card into Europe.
The Bluebirds booked their place in the FA Cup final following a 1-0 win over Championship rivals Barnsley in the last four on Sunday.
The victory ensures that the Welsh side will be back at Wembley to face Portsmouth on May 17th.
However, with current regulations stipulating that a side from outside England cannot take one of the English FA's places in European competition, the Bluebirds would therefore miss out on a Uefa Cup spot even if they went on to lift the trophy.
Support
The growing support which has gathered behind Cardiff's cause has now forced Uefa to begin discussing the possibility of granting Dave Jones' side special dispensation should they claim their first FA Cup triumph since 1927.
"We understand there was an agreement from the beginning when Cardiff joined the English league that if it happened they gained a European place they would not represent the English Football Association," Uefa spokesman William Gaillard told Sky Sports News.
"We feel from a sporting point of view that Cardiff deserves to play in the Uefa cup.
"So what will be submitted to the executive committee if Cardiff win the final is the possibility of giving them a wild card to the Uefa Cup."

It will be sad if UEFA block Cardiff's attempts for Europe if they win the FA Cup - and for the sake of the tournaments glamour and for the Championship I hope they WHOOP Pompey in the final with Kevin Phillips
