Iran is unlikely to win a game at the olympics to be perfectly honest mainly to our players lacking the technical ability of the teams in our group all of whom have NBA/NBA callibre players. This is gonna be an awsome experience for our players though and attract interest from European and NBA teams hopefully.
    Some news:
    - Iran trialled 2 North America based players Aidin Shahangian (UCLA) and Hamed Nazzari (Douglas College).
    - Yashar Mohammadpour (Azad) and Yousef Arefi (Petrochimi) dropped from team due to living outside of Iran and not attending training
    IRAN NT PLAN UNTIL OLYMPICS:
April: 6 weeks Training in Tehran
June: 14 days training and friendly matches in Italy and Serbia
and going to Croatia, Slovenia and Lithuania !!! for train and friendly matches against NTs and Clubs.
July: 2 weeks Training in Tehran
August: Diamond Ball Tournament + 2 friendly matches against Spain , Russia or Angola in Beijing
    - Also Haddadi has rejected offers from all over Europe as he is waiting for big offers from NBA
He better be very good if he wish to play in the NBA.

          Just some memories:

Iran winning the Asian Championship Gold medal and qualifying for Beijing 2008:

In honor of Aydin Bahrami, player who was too young to die and will be missed.

Yeh, El-Khatib really is a great player. Iran's win against Lebanon at the Asian Championships is the greatest achievement in the history of Iran's basketball along with our qualification for the olympics. Lebanon have great players in Rony Fahed, Brian Beshara, El Khatib, Joe Vogel and we still managed to beat them despite having 3-4 injured players who stayed in Iran.

very good schedule and good warmup games in place for TM. good to see the federation doing so much for the team.

to be honest, haddadi is really stupid. theres no way hes going to get a GOOD offer from any NBA team, especially considering the fact that hes trying to do that coming from iran. if hes in any way smart he would go to europe and then work his way up, which at most i can only see him landing a 10 day here and there until he proves himself.

I see where you are coming from but we just need a guy to break the barrier. Thats what Yao did for Chinese basketball, and we keep seeing slowly more Chinese guys in the league.

China has a huge basketball market and the NBA is very satisfied $$$, im still not impressed with the growth of chinese basketball in terms of skill, even with their large population..i can only see them producing either crazy fast pg's or big tall centers lol (sun ming ming? ne1)

iran has to develop their star (haddadi) to gain some attention in the sport, the rest comes next

yea iran and china are 2 different things

personally, i dont think we're there yet. Our basketball still has to grow and get better. Kids dont have opportunities to play basketball regularly...alot of times its hard to find a descent basket, let alone a court. Most our basketball hoops are destroyed in playgrounds and public and gyms and schools courts arent accessable that easily.

Bottom line, not only our basketball has to get better but marketing wise, we still lose. Because China has 20 times more population AND copyright laws don't apply to Iran. So they wont be able to maximize in selling in Iran. LOL
