Iranian Basketball team coming to Australia

Anyone who is in Melbourne, we are going to try to get an area so we can all sit together. let me know who would come.

    SOO EXCITING!!!!

The Australian men's basketball team will play Iran in a three-game series in June.

The Boomers World Challenge matches will be played in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne as the Australians fine-tune their squad for the August Olympics in Beijing.

Iran have been drawn in the same group as Australia at the opening round of the Games.

"We're delighted to have secured three games against Iran," Basketball Australia chief executive Scott Derwin said.

"We expect them as Asian Champions to be spirited competition and we hope the people of Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne get to a game to support the Boomers and Australian basketball in this critical step toward Beijing."

Last year Iran defeated Lebanon to win the 2007 Asian crown, qualifying their first men's basketball team for an Olympic Games since 1948.

Australia, ranked ninth in the world, defeated New Zealand 2-1 to earn the right to play in Beijing.

Iran has yet to name its player roster for the tour but have a centre, Jaber Rouzbahani, who stands at 226cm and can dunk the ball without leaving the ground.

Good news, has been in planning for some time.

Iran's Basketball Federation is the best and is ran by award winning Mahmoud Mashhoun.

I heard there is a high likelihood that Jaber Rouzbahani won't even make the final cut for the Olympic team.

I don't like basketball at all but if Iran's national comes to Australia I'll be interested to watch the match

But the sad thing is that all the good sporting events are always in Melbourne and not in Sydney.
I don't know I might come with some friends if it doesn't collide with my studies.

          GRACIAS PEP

After the success of Iran V Australia in 97 there is no other place they would have this game.

Its also funny that u say Melbourne get everything when Sydney had both Uruaguy qualifiers for the World Cup of 02 and 06.

Least i got to see Messi and Tevez at the MCG

I really don't know much about his recent play, but I was talking to my friend who is in the camp the other day, and he said there was a good chance Jaber wouldn't make the final cut. Basically, by no means has he locked up a spot as one of the final 12 headed to Beijing.

That might actually be a positive development for our basketball as a whole, if we are talented enough to brush aside 7'6 monsters.

i think his problem is that he doesnt know the game very well. He has a hard time understanding formations and plays...that was the reason he couldnt make the NBA when he visited US a few years ago. He only started playing basketball when he was 14, so he doesnt have a solid foundation.

Another thing is....he needs to work out and eat better so he can be stronger. He's a little sloppy and weak, he needs to be more aggressive.

But i really hope he makes it cuz i like the kid and it'll be a main attraction to see a guy that tall.

The reason Jaber never was able to maximize his potential is because he started playing basketball really late, I think when he was only 16 or 17 years old.

He started playing when he was 15 to be exact.

Babak i will see you at the game if you are going. We should plan on bringing whistles, banners and if possible a loud speaker for someone who has a strong voice and knows good chants.

let me know on where the Iranians are sitting so we can get a spot too, there will be 4 of us so far but there could be more.

                      GO IRAN

does anyone know if andrew bogut will be playing v.s. iran, that would be sweet to see an NBA player on the court, plus it would allow irans bigmen to step up
