Italy Tried To Fix 1990 World Cup - Maradona
Football legend Diego Maradona, who single handedly won the 1986 World Cup, has taken a massive swipe at the Italian game and accused Lega Calcio chief Antonio Matarrese of trying to fix Italia 90.
The former Napoli legend was at the Cannes film festival this week where he watched a new documentary about his life in the game.
El Pibe D'or took the opportunity to make his feelings against the Italian game known and he has sensationaly accused Matarrese of using Mafia style tactics to fix the 1990 World Cup final.
"The Italians were all disappointed when they were eliminated because Matarrese, who like Blatter is a mafioso, had already tried to fix an Italy - Germany final," said Maradona.
"They were so annoyed they accused myself and Canniggia of doping, has an Italian player never taken an asprin before?
"If Cocaine is a drug then I am a druggie, I didn't die because the Lord above didn't want me to."
Maradona has always caused controversy and he insists that he would have been the world's greatest player rather than Brazilian legend Pele had he not taken drugs during his turbulent career.
"If I had not of taken drugs then I would have been the greatest ever. Pele? I dont even think he would have come second or even third," concluded Maradona.
