Euro 2008 - Portugal vs. Turkey

I don't know if it was just me, or other people felt it too. But today's Euro game between Portugal and Turkey was so much like Iran vs. Portugal game of world cup 2008.

It was June 17, 2006, when Iran played against Portugal. First half ended 0-0, second half approximately in minute 65 and 80 we conceeded two goals and lost the game.

Today June 7, 2008, almost the samething happend. But this time it was Turkey against Portugal. The same result, same temp, and almost the same quality of play ...

I can darely say that Iran actually played much better than Turkey against a much stronger Portugal side in WC 2006.

    Any comments?

wrong forum? but anyways i am so happy turkey lost, for a period there, they thought they were some great european team, hopefully this brings them down to earth and makes them realize they're on par with teams like us

I agree with much of what you said, but turkey played better than us, they were able to penetrate and create several chances, if I remember well, the only chances we had were the header by nekounam and khatibi's big miss both in the 2nd half, turkey looked a bit dangerous in 1st half as well, and they showed some good technical skills as well! so I would say turkey played slightly better than us

              yes, i watched the game.

portugal has been fire the last 6 7 years. we didnt play the best of games but we werent bad either. we expected too much and the media and other illwishers only made matters worse for us and TM, not to forget all our key players got injured just before the worldcup: hashemian, kia, karimi, zandi and even nikbakht.

it was the same game, really, i noticed that also.

but i must say, this portugal team is such a great team, not everyone believes this, and notice this. they are the european brazilian, and their ball control and ball possesion is such high and big quality, they control oponnent and ball and let the oponnent run behind the ball, makes them tired, and around minute 65 they score...same szenario as always...

portugal is a great nation. great football nation. and turkey did ok like iran ,but portugal is a big number...

in 06, figo pauleta and others ,, but i liked the game very much and ofcourse that portugal won and my betting was succed and also the first game i lyckely got the right one : )

It is amazing how much good organization does for you ...

Back in the 60s (not that I am that old), but Turkey was pretty much where Iran was in football. They were part of the Asian football federation.

They decided to pull out and join the Europen side. All their club teams turned professional and they invested so much in infrastructure and support for their football.

It took them close to 50 years to get where they are today. Turkey has come a long way.

Turkey's example should be one to be taken by the Iranian federation and follow the exact road map.

Oh btw - I either remember or have been told the story, of the old days, that Iran played Turkey in a 3 way competition (Peyman e Sento Torunament, which was a economic pact among Turkey, Iran and Pakistan). Turkey beat us 4-1 in Tehran.
