you cant win a tournement by fluke. Greece played well as a team, packed their defence and scored many of their low amount of goals from set pieces. Good teamwork was the framework of their success.. same as iraq.

any true greek fan would never make reference to 04' with regards to the stance of greek football, we are on the rise and we are certainly better than the nations listed..and not simply ATM, we are producing talent at a faster rate and our NT results are growing steadily..and our best player isnt a bench warmer, we have several players with high market values whom are constantly under the radar of many european clubs..and even if we stink it up in 08 so what, we still qualified and thats more than alot of countries can say
and its irrelevant to mock the 04 euro champs for not making it to the WC 06 if your team plays in the AFC, its 10,000 times harder to qualify via. UEFA...
As for IranSoccer#8 as much as it may be of discomfort to you our two countries on the NT level and club level are almost so equal its frightening..and draws against malta and moldova do not go unnoticed either..
our euro victory was a longshot, not a fluke, and especially hard won...our goals werent blunders..and our plays were crafty...tsiartas 50yd cross to chari v.s. spain...sublime corner v.s. the czech..zagorakis *****owning lizarazu to slit the cross in to chari (clear goal also dissalowed for katsouranis)

Actually Greece would probably slaughter those Imports to Qatar in a neutral venue. 3-0 or 2-0 easily. To compare the rigours and grit of European football to the joke that is Asian football (yes its a joke as all Asian sides suck at world stage) is mere nonsense. Like it or not.

Greece winning the Euros was a once in a lifetime long shot - c'mon they conceded something like only 4 goals in the 6 games they played and all of them were in the group stages. They did not concede a single goal in the KO rounds and scored from set pieces. To me that's defensive efficiency and set piece mastery not to mention a great team spirit. But not a fluke.

Same with Iraq who finished 4th in Olympics football, came second in Asian Games, and won the Asian Cup. That's a rise to success. Now they have shaken up a bit because of new heights but destiny is in their hands.

Its really disgusting the immaturity at some of PFDC's members. Greece, while not doing much at euro 08, is a thousand times better than us in every facet of the game. Yeah they dont play this most attractive football but guess what? People remembers winners first and foremost. Italy's won 4 world cups not through stylish pretty football but through gritty tough defensive play. People need to stop comparing iran and greece seeing as we have trouble playing the likes of kuwait and syria while they are taking the best teams in the world. IF iran was in the euros and going up against russia, how badly do you think we would lose? 5-0? 6-0?

if greece played the likes of kuwait and syria obviously they would not always win either. if we played teams like russia we would be at least as good as greece.

Our NT are def not soo far apart as the rankings show.

thats a big if my friend and relies on little logic. Regularly going up against top opposition doesnt mean much unless you can back it up with solid infrastructure, good coaching, and a dedicated atheltic department.

even though both russia and sweden who are ranked 22nd and 24th beat them, the point of this thread is that my friend said that greece is the 8th best team but i said that the rankings are BS.
