Holland was just outclassed by the pace of the Russian and their motivation to win the match.

Russia should have won by at least 3-4 goals if they just converted their chances.

Here is another case where the teams that start a competition brilliantly, fail and those that start poor, finish nicely. GOO Russia

      GRACIAS PEP

Guus Hiddink has literally transformed Russia into a fast attacking side with the fitness of marathon runners running at high speed. Amazing. Their football is like the old school Dutch 'Total Football' from the 1970s, but being played with the fast-forward button pressed. Andrei Arshavin is the main talisman that makes Russia tick. Plus they have a solid defence and midfield too

^^I'm sorry but it's a myth that this is down to Hiddink. It's just because it's a good story for the English media...Hiddink does it again, transforming a nothing team. The players achieved it. Did you not watch Zenit St Petersburg do the same thing winning the UEFA Cup playing the same style of football? How was that down to Hiddink?

Russia have been a joy to watch in this entire tournament by the way - even in losing to Spain they played some delightful football. It's a shame it can't be a Spain-Russia final.

Good observation. I totally agree. Russian club football has gotten really really strong over the last few years.

you can't call what he did for Korea, Australia and now Russia an accident, I mean Australia hadn't even qualified for an WC and they almost reached the quarters, don't let me start about korea

caught but you cant win something without the coach in charge of team affairs and tactics Hiddink made something out of nothing teams like South Korea and Australia at the last two World Cups didnt he ? He's done it before and he's doing it again.

trust me If Hiddink would coach Iran we would maybe reach the quarters of the WC.

No, you're right I can't call it an accident. Nor did I. I merely stated that this was not down to him transforming the team. He's not a miracle worker. He is a good coach, but this Russian team he has taken on is an incredibly young and talanted team. If you think Hiddink can be credited with finding or developing Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko, Zhirkov or Zyryanov? Did you watch the Zenit St Petersburg side destroy Bayern 4-0 in the semis playing the same one touch attacking football?

Hiddink is not stupid, he's not going to take on a team if it has no hope. Let's not forget that Korea were also a talented young team (that were incredibly lucky with some atrocious refereeing decisions to get that far) and Australia were not exactly no-hopers.

don't get me wrong. he's a good coach, but also a clever one. he's not going to take on a team if he doesn't think they're good enough. Russia has an incredibly talented bunch of young players at Hiddink's disposal.
