the penalties were taken fine...!! they were just outdone by brilliant goal keeping..!! especially that first penalty save by cassias..!! that was just an unreal dive and save..!!
it wasnt like the Croatians who were totally missing the target all together against turkey in penalties..!!
after the stupid Torres substitution, Spain lost all offensive venom for most part and Italy should have pushed up for the winner a bit more...! but then again taking a chance on buffon in penalties against a team who has choked at similar situations every time in the past, was a calculated and sensible decision by Donadoni..!
donadoni is an ok coach, nothing too special........!kinda like daei...just because he was a good player, it doesnt make him a great coach..!!
he made some wack decisions in the first game, but he did the best he could with the old asss squad he had taken to the euros..!!
this loss would be a good thing in the long run for italy as it would facilitate an immediate rebuilding and youth surge at their national team..!! they will be a force to be reckon with in another 2-3 years..!!

del piero was probably the last kick taker...de rossi's was a good penalty, but casillas made a brilliant save as he went the right way and stretched to save it.

i agree fully that was well taken penalty as it was headed high towards the corner roof of the net..! normally when goalie dives that far he can only save the ball if its on the ground..but that was like a spider man save..!!
imo, italy played overall better football at euros, than most of wc 06..!

No Ekbatan, that really was the case. Toni was always the antagonist in breaking down Spain's build-up and then either forcing the defenders to commit a foul - which they did - or dive with even the slightest of contact - which he did - and for a man who is 6ft 4in and weighs a lot, you would probably imagine having enough to stand his ground easily....but he didnt.

Admit it, Italy were not good enough and they paid the price for their tactics. End of story.
