    Hugo Sánchez is kandidaat om het nationale elftal van Saudi-Arabië onder zijn hoede te nemen, zo melden diverse Mexicaanse media. Naar verluidt hebben de eerste gesprekken tussen bestuursleden van de Saudi-Arabische voetbalbond en de oud-bondscoach van het Mexicaanse elftal reeds plaatsgevonden.Sánchez was tussen november 2006 en april 2008 werkzaam als bondscoach van El Tri, nadat de beste Mexicaanse voetballer ooit lange tijd openlijk naar deze functie had gesolliciteerd. Succesvol was hij niet als bondscoach. Onder hem verloor Mexico van de Verenigde Staten in de finale van het toernooi om de Gold Cup. Bovendien liep de kwalificatieronde voor de Olympische Spelen van Peking uit op een fiasco. De voormalige goalgetter van Real Madrid stond eerder bij Pumas UNAM en Necaxa aan het roer. Onder leiding van Sánchez behaalde Mexico veertien overwinningen, drie gelijkspelen en acht nederlagen. Daarnaast eindigde het Midden-Amerikaanse land als derde op de Copa América van vorig jaar in Venezuela.

      haha at this point in time, hugo will do anything for a job. im pretty sure like half of mexico hates him now, couldnt take u23 to olympics, couldn't beat usa like he said, but sounds like a kind of guy saudis would take

          We lost 4-0 only because we were using our B players, I mean we only had 1 regular starter in that game and it was Nekonam. They had their full team in a full stadium in a Mexican City... I remember we had 2 big chances though, first was Reza Enayati 1 on 1 with the goalie, and the other was a Zandi chip that hit the crossbar.
