    Amr Zaki & Zamalek

Wigan target Amr Zaki claims Egyptian side El Zamalek are set to block any potential transfer to another club.

Zaki is reported to have caught the eye of Latics boss Steve Bruce following his impressive form at club and international level.

The striker has hit 27 goals in 48 appearances for Egypt and sparkled at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.

It was understood that Wigan were close to agreeing a loan deal for the 25-year-old, but Zaki claims Zamalek president Mamdouh Abbas has told him he will not be allowed to leave the club and that he was threatened with violence at recent discussions.

    Surprise

"I was surprised when he (Abbas) told me that the club will not allow me to leave under any circumstances," Zaki told FilGoal.com.

"He then got angry and swore at me. Things got worse when his bodyguards were about to beat me up."

And Zaki's agent Nader Shawki admits he was also shocked by Abbas' actions.

"I have never witnessed something like that in football, it's a shame to see such acts coming from the president of a big club like Zamalek," added Shawki.

Sadly, not the first time things like this have happened in Egypt . Probably anywhere from 2 to 5 potential European transfers are blocked by our clubs a year. Midfielder Hosny Abd Rabbo and defender Amir Azmy are currently going through similar sagas. As you can see, the clubs will stop at nothing

Sadly, we don't have the money nor the political leverage within FIFA for them to give a crap. They let the clubs run amok and do what they please. And these players basically have no defense, represented by agents who are barely, if at all qualified.

        Take this comical recent example:

Azmi is still ours, Zamalek insist

Azmi being unveiled by OFTAS Spor

Although Turkish side OFTAS Spor announced that they signed Amir Azmi, Zamalek insisted on Saturday that the Egyptian defender still belongs to them.

"Azmi has signed a contract with us. He never informed the club that he wishes to terminate that deal," Zamalek said in a statement on their website.

Turkish Super Lig OFTAS Spor announced afterwards that they acquired the services of Azmi, without disclosing further details.

"We haven't been informed yet that any European club want to sign Azmi. There is nothing to discuss, the player is ours," Zamalek said.

I don't think it matters in egypt's case , I mean you guys won the african cup of nations with mostly a domestic based team.

I believe Zidan was the only player in the squad playing overseas whilst cote d' iviore had a team of stars playing in the best teams in the world yet they couldn't win it this time either which i heavily backed them to do so.

egypt plays well as a team and thats what is most important. Yet when you come up againts big teams it might come in handy to have players with foreign league experience.

                  finally...

                  Zaki Passes Wigan Medical

Egyptian star Amr Zaki has today moved a step closer to his proposed move to Wigan Athletic after the striker passed a medical at the JJB Stadium earlier this morning.

The 25-year-old is expected to sign for the Manchester based club on Monday after agreeing a one year loan deal from his present club El Zamalek. Zaki’s agent Mohamed Saied spoke to www.filgoal.com, saying, “Zaki will return home on Saturday after passing the medical.”

“He will pen his Wigan contract on Monday. The club will then hold a press conference to reveal the full details of the deal.”

Zaki is also a member of the Egyptian national squad, helping them win successive African Cup of Nations trophies in Egypt and Ghana. His prolific goal scoring record for his country makes for impressive reading, scoring 27 goals in 48 appearances.

The Mansoura born player has been at current club El Zamalek for 2 years, scoring a very healthy 22 goals in 54 games for the Cairo based side.

This will surely give the Latics’ fans much encouragement for the new season, as Zaki’s threat up front and eye for goal could well be a deciding factor in Wigan’s bid to retain Premier League status.

Looks like the Egyptian Football association are even biggest Assssholes than the Iranian one.

Zaky is finally a Lactic. He came on as a sub yesterday and scored the winner in his Wigan debut:

Amr Zaki notched home in the dying seconds in his first match for Wigan Athletic as the Latics claimed a 3-2 friendly victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

The Egypt frontman came off the bench in the 58th minute to seal the win for Steve Bruce's men.

Senegalese forward Henri Camara fed Zaki inside the six-yard box and the 25-year-old pounced to score in stoppage time.

Earlier in the game, Sheffield Wednesday came from behind twice before Zaki settled the contest.

Wigan led through a goal from veteran striker Emile Heskey in the 17th minute but Jermaine Johnson leveled the score two minutes later.

Titus Bramble restored Wigan's advantage in the 37th minute before Deon Burton equalized once again ten minutes after the break.

Zaki, who joined Wigan on a season-long loan from Zamalek, is hoping to take part in his side's Premier League opener against West Ham United on August 16th.

In Zaky's third match, Premier League opener vs. West Ham, Zaky had an excellent match and scored his team's only goal. That's 3 in 3 games.

                          Great volley:

A little side note, Mido came on in the 82nd minute for Middlesbrough today and also scored.
