MILAN - Inter captain Javier Zanetti spoke to the press ahead of Tuesday's Champions League round of 16 return against Liverpool.
"We're first in the championship and we have ninety minutes to try and pull off a feat in an important game," he said. "Liverpool are very experienced in this competition so it will be a hard-fought clash, so Inter will have to play a great game and try to make as few mistakes as possible."
Gianfranco Bedin, one of the Great Inter players who took part in the European comeback against the Reds in 1965, said he recognises himself in Javier. "I was very pleased to hear these words, especially from him - one of the greats of this club's history," said Zanetti.
"We're confident going into this game, we have a match to play. We have to try to stay calm and play a great game.
"We know Ibra is important for us. He can turn a game at any moment. But the whole team has to try and qualify, it would be a wonderful present for the president and all the fans."
Asked in which position he will play tomorrow, Zanetti replied: "I'm at the service of the coach and the team. I will play and make myself useful. We're hoping to have Chivu back because he's very important for us.
"We will have to be aggressive and be careful not to concede spaces. If it doesn't go well we shouldn't make a drama of it because we have a championship to finish. But let's wait before speaking. We're hoping to play a great game and qualify for the next round because anything can happen in football."
On Inter's Centenary celebrations, the captain said: "It was right to celebrate one hundred years of history. Now we have to concentrate on this fixture. The fans will be close to us, as always. They will be by our side tomorrow."
