Veteran Recoba farmed out on loan by Inter

MILAN, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Inter Milan forward Alvaro Recoba has signed for Torino on loan, the Serie A clubs said on Friday, making it unlikely that Adriano will leave Inter before the transfer deadline shuts.

Uruguayan Recoba, who has spent 10 years at the San Siro, including a loan spell at Venezia, had been knocked down the pecking order at the Italian champions given their array of attacking talent.

Torino and Inter announced the loan deal on their website.

Inter President Massimo Moratti said earlier this week that he would only let one of either Recoba and Adriano leave and that the Brazilian could only go out on loan.

England's West Ham United held talks with Inter about Adriano while Manchester City, Lazio and Parma have also expressed an interest.

Adriano, who has lost his place in the Inter and Brazil sides after two years of patchy form and weight problems, has said he would only consider a permanent move away and would prefer to stay and fight for his place at Inter.

Empoli v.s Inter Milan [Final Score]

                  Empoli 0-2 Inter Milan

EMPOLI, September 1 (Serie A) - Defending champions Internazionale moved into provisional pole position at the top of Serie A with a 2-0 win over Empoli on Saturday evening.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a goal in either half to ensure Roberto Mancini's side claimed all three points for the first time this season to go top although they will likely be overtaken when their rivals play on Sunday.

The Sweden international struck in the 13th and 83rd minutes of an otherwise evenly-contested game, allowing Inter to move to the summit with four points from their first two games.

After a bright start from the home side, it was Inter who took the lead in the 14th minute.

Maicon sent in a cross from the right and Ibrahimovic beat Andrea Raggi and Daniele Balli to the ball to knock it in with the outside of is boot.

The goal gave Inter confidence and the partnership between Ibrahimovic and David Suazo was growing with every minute.

They combined for the next best chance of the game with the latter just delaying a split second too long and allowing Lino Marzoratti to get in a crucial challenge to deflect the shot wide for a corner.

The defending champions were unable to put the game beyond Empoli and the home side slowly worked their way back into the game and started to create their own chances.

Ten minutes before the interval, Luca Antonini broke the offside trap to latch onto Guillermo Giacomazzi's ball forward. His first touch was exceptional, but his second, the shot, left a lot to be desired.

Inter's thoughts would surely be flashing back to last weekend, when they let a single-goal lead slip in the last minute of the game against Udinese.

Empoli will have remembered that too and it was they who took control of the early stages of the second half.

Substitute Sebastian Giovinco brought a new verve to the home side and, from his cross, Antonio Busce should have grabbed the equaliser.

From eight yards out, he aimed a free header too close to Francesco Toldo, who, even diving the wrong way, was able to save with his legs.

Inter camped inside their own half and relied on the pace of Suazo and Ibrahimovic to cause a threat on the counter-attack.

From one of these breaks, they banished the ghost of last weekend and ensured they would not throw away any points this time.

Luis Figo led the ball forward down the right and, using Cesar as an intermediary, the ball landed at the feet of Ibrahimovic, who had an easy tap in from eight yards out for his and Inter's second of the game.

There was to be no late drama this time and Inter held on for all three points, leaving Empoli still searching for their first point of the season.

                    Ibrahimovic the difference for Inter

ROME, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice to help Inter Milan return to form with a 2-0 Serie A win at Empoli on Saturday.

The Swedish striker flicked home at the far post on 13 minutes after Maicon's deep cross from the right and then finished off a counter-attack seven minutes from time.

The champions lost the Italian Super Cup to AS Roma and then drew 1-1 at home to Udinese in their league opener last weekend when goalkeeper Julio Cesar was dismissed and Ivan Cordoba scored a stoppage time own goal.

Their stuttering start continued with a 5-0 drubbing by Barcelona in a friendly on Wednesday but they got back on track against Empoli despite Cesar's suspension and Patrick Vieira missing out through injury.

Small Tuscan side Empoli, drawn against FC Zurich on Friday in their first ever UEFA Cup campaign, showed glimpses of why they were Italy's surprise package last season but stand-in keeper Francesco Toldo ably dealt with their efforts.

Brazilian striker Adriano, who decided to stay at Inter despite several loan offers and a lack of first team action, was not included in Roberto Mancini's squad.

Juventus visit Cagliari and Roma host Siena on Sunday with AC Milan, who beat Sevilla in Friday's European Super Cup, entertaining Fiorentina in Serie A on Monday.

Mancini: Not At Our Best Yet, But...

                      Hard Work Rewarded

Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 13th and 82nd minute handed Inter Milan a 2-0 win over Empoli in a tricky game.

"We won 2-0 today, but we have always suffered here in Empoli because they are a tough team to beat," said Roberto Mancini after the game.

"It's never easy to win here, you have to work very hard to do well."

"We did well in the first half, but then there was a slight physical lapse and this can happen at this stage of the season.

"Also, a team that is behind always pushes to get back in the game. But we were rewarded in the end."

Indeed the second goal came at just the right time, after Empoli had enjoyed a good spell of domination, and come close to equalizing a few times.

                      Conservative Start

Speaking about his conservative starting line-up, which included Cesar on the left, he said: "We started with a 4-4-2 because we still weren't in top form and also because Empoli have fast and rapid players and they play well.

"It was important to have a more compact team so we opted for this formation with Cesar on the left, and he did very well.

"Luis [Figo] came on because we needed a player like him who can keep the ball, and can play between the lines and create chances for his team-mates. Cristian [Chivu] came on because Maxwell was tired. And he can cover every role in defence.

"Was I satisfied with the full-backs? Yes, because we're still not in top form. They can still improve a lot, but this goes for the whole team."

When he was at Parma, he had a form that was hyped more than Ronaldinho is today. Watch some clips and you'll understand why he was unstoppable there.

He is still a very talented player, but he isn't at his best at Inter. A lot of it thanks to his personal lifestyle.
