Barcelona FC president Joan Laporta has been forced to resign from his post under a pressure from management committee, a repot says.
The Catalan daily Sport reported Tuesday that Barcelona's management committee would hold an emergency meeting on Thursday following two years of lackluster results in the club with no major trophies.
Laporta has been increasingly unpopular among Barcelona fans due to the recent drought in silverware.
In a Sunday vote that was aimed at determining the future of the 45-year-old president, Laporta only got the backing of 37.37 percent of the 37,294 who took part in the vote.
According to the report, Laporta needed to have the backing of two-third of the supporters to survive the confidence vote.
Under the presidency of Laporta at Barcelona, the Catalan giants won back-to-back league titles in 2005 and 2006, along with the Champions League in 2006.
