Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz has been named as the new head coach for the Portugal's national soccer team.
"Carlos Queiroz is the new national coach," says a Friday Portugal Football Federation statement.
The 55-year-old coach, who signed a four-year deal to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari, will be formally presented at a news conference on July 16.
"Since the first time I was contacted I have been very keen to accept this huge challenge," Queiroz has said.
"I would like to thank Manchester United for agreeing to let me go."
Queiroz was previously in charge of the Portugal Under-20 team dubbed the 'golden generation' for winning world titles in 1989 and 1991.
